Aloha e nā hoa,
My name is Frederick Welch IV, and I am writing with humility and gratitude to ask for your support in an extraordinary journey that will allow me to represent Moloka‘i, Hawai‘i, and our Hawaiian community on a global stage. As a proud Native Hawaiian and police officer, I strive to live by the values of perseverance, resilience, and service instilled in me by my kūpuna and the community I am honored to serve.
This year, I was deeply humbled to be selected in the first round of a highly competitive lottery for the 2025 AGOGE: 300 March. Scheduled for October 31 to November 2, 2025, this event marks the inaugural march of its kind organized by Spartan.
The AGOGE: 300 March is inspired by the ancient Spartan training regimen known as the agoge—a rigorous education and training program designed to mold Spartan youth into elite warriors. This modern event honors that legacy, offering participants a chance to experience the endurance, discipline, and resilience that defined Spartan warriors.
Participants will embark on a 70+ mile ruck march through the historic terrain of Sparta, Greece. Starting at the Tomb of Leonidas, the march traverses the rugged Taygetos Mountains and follows routes steeped in history. With only 300 participants selected worldwide through a lottery system, this opportunity is as rare as it is challenging.
This is more than a personal challenge—it is an opportunity to carry the strength and aloha of our Hawaiian people to a global stage, embodying the values of unity, resilience, and perseverance.
Recent Athletic Accomplishments
To prepare for this challenge, I have committed to building both physical endurance and mental resilience. Over the past year, I have run over 1,600 miles, setting a foundation of discipline and determination. Additionally, I have achieved the following milestones:
● Placed 8th in the Hawai‘i Spartan Ultramarathon (50K)
● Completed the Honolulu Marathon in under 4 hours
● Placed 1st in the Moloka‘i 5K
● Completed the Hapalua Half Marathon
● Completed the King’s Runner 10K
To further strengthen myself for this journey, I have also committed to competing in several key races this year, including:
● Big Bear Spartan Race (21K)
● Big Bear Spartan Race (10K)
● Big Bear Spartan Race (5K)
● Hawai‘i IronMan 70.3
● Hawai‘i Spartan Ultra (50K)
These events will help prepare me for the physical and mental demands of the AGOGE: 300 March.
