Right now, Freddie is sitting in jail—without bond, without bail—while his partner Sissy is home, alone, preparing for major back surgery. They are on the verge of losing everything: their home, Freddie’s garage, and the fragile stability they've worked so hard to build. They urgently need your help.
What Happened
Last year, after Prime 8's band practice in Brentwood, Freddie—an African American man—was pulled over on his way home. He hadn’t been drinking or using any drugs (he never does and if you know him, you know this to be true), but the police claimed his eyes appeared "swollen" and pointed to what they called “track marks” on his arms. In reality, those “track marks” were just stretch marks from Freddie’s dedication to weight training.
He was arrested without a blood test or a breathalyzer, and jailed for a week.
He was later given a court date—but the notice was sent to the address of his new home in McKeesport, a house he and Sissy are slowly working to restore to a livable home. The problem? The house has no electricity, no running water—and they never received the court notice.
They did, however, notice something else: police vehicles repeatedly surveilling the property.
Still, Freddie stayed ready to appear in court whenever summoned. But on July 25, police arrived at the house and arrested him—for failure to appear.
He’s now been held in jail ever since, with no bond, no bail. His hearing is scheduled for tomorrow, August 13. And even if he’s released, the damage is already hitting hard.
Why This Is So Urgent
This heartbreaking situation comes after years of struggle.
Freddie has been hustling nonstop—opening his own garage in Elizabeth, fixing cars on his own, and taking on any work he can find:
- Appearing as an extra in movies
- Giving blood
- Scrapping metal
- Taking odd jobs
All while moving belongings from their old home into the new, uninhabitable house in McKeesport, and caring for Sissy, who has faced life-threatening health issues, including a heart attack, a stroke, and now preparing for back surgery.
With Freddie now locked up and unable to work, they are days away from losing everything.
What We’re Asking
We’re raising $2,500 to help Freddie and Sissy survive this crisis:
- Cover basic living expenses while Freddie is unable to work
- Save the business Freddie has been working hard to build
- Make necessary repairs and restore utilities to their home
- Begin rebuilding the life they’ve worked so hard to create
Any amount you can give will make a difference. Even $5 or $10 can help hold a piece of their world together.
If you can't give, please share this story. The more people who know, the better chance we have of helping them through this nightmare.
Sissy and Freddie have met many unfair roadblocks just to survive.
Now, we’re asking for help to give them a fighting chance.
Please help us keep them in their home. Help us keep the lights on—literally. Help us bring Freddie home.
Thank you.
