Help for Victims of Mindanao Earthquakes
In October 2019, large part of the southern Philippine island of Mindanao were struck by an earthquake swarm, three of which are above 6.0 in the magnitude scale with an earthquake intensity VIII. October 16 (6.3) , October 29 (6.5) and October 31 (6.5).
As of November 2, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, 16 people were reported dead, seven missing, and 403 injured and thousands of people became homeless.
NDRRMC said the last earthquake affected 7,303 families or 35,481 people and damaged 7,089 infrastructures, mostly houses and schools.
Many people are now sleeping outside in makeshift tents due to aftershocks which seismologist predict may last up to December.
Heavy rain makes life more difficult for evacuees. Food supplies are scarce as vendors have closed shops and/or possibly affected also. People need help - drinking water, food, medicines, clothing and shelter especially tarps for makeshift tent.
Local government resources are limited to respond to all request for assistance. The national government are sending help but they usually go first to the main cities and nothing left for the rural areas and remote areas.
So our goal for this fundraising is to provide help for the victims in the rural areas in Bansalan Davao del Sur, nearby towns and remote areas. These rural areas are close to the fault line so they've experienced severe damage.
Wooden and concrete houses were not spared. The people suffer as the center of the town almost become a ghost town.
They need our help. We appeal for your generosity to help us provide tarps, water, medicines and other food stuff to the victims to ease a bit their burden. This is their URGENT need at the moment.
The funds will be forwarded to the "Initiatives for Bansalan" private group. They comprise of well-meaning fellow citizens of Bansalan who are willing to extend their time and effort to purchase the needed items, pack them, and deliver them to the affected areas. They are also coordinating with the MSWDO-LGU of Bansalan.
