Help for Tori (Vicki) Salladay

Dear friends,

As you may have heard, Tori (Vicki) Salladay had a massive stroke on October 1st.  She experienced complete paralysis on her right side and is unable to speak.  Initially, the prognosis was quite bleak.  The possibility of her leaving a facility of any kind seemed unlikely.

I saw her myself yesterday.  Although she still cannot talk, she can now smile and make other facial expressions.  She also has some feeling back on her right side, around her shoulders.  She is getting physical and speech therapy every day and is working hard.  The folks that are helping her call it "boot camp".  She has never worked as hard for anything as she must now work to regain mobility and a sense of independence.

To all of those who have sent emails, cards and well wishes, thank you!   For those who haven't been able to, please still send them.  Tori is at a point where she is understanding her situation and is going to need a lot of positive reinforcement to keep working hard.

Unfortunately, Tori is also going to need assistance with medical bills and other expenses, such as COBRA payments and personal expenses.  Before her stroke, she had just started a new job and had only been there a month, so does not have disability insurance, does not have any accrued vacation time, etc.  The doctors have stated that she will not be able to work again.  The doctors are also saying that she may be in rehab for a year and there is no guarantee that she will ever be able to live on her own again.

The family is trying to assist financially, but they were also hit hard by hurricane Irma, so these additional expenses are difficult, to say the least.

If you know Tori, you also know what a loving, caring person she is.  Over the last 16 years, I've watched her care for senior citizens with great humility, patience, love and concern.  Now it's time that we return that amazing gift, by showing our love and concern for her in her great hour of need.

Even if you do not know Tori, you know me.  I am not the sort to ask for help, but  Tori, as well as the Messner, Salladay and Whitney families, are in need of our help.   I am purposely putting this on FaceBook, to reach everyone I know and am asking all who know me (even if you don't know Tori) to give a donation.  I don't care how much you give.  Everything helps.  I am hoping we reach our goal, which would cover basic expenses and COBRA payments for the next few months.  If you are worried that it's a scam, or want more specifics,

call me or send me a text.

If you simply can't afford a donation, or maybe would like to help out even more, repost this on your Facebook account so that more people can see it.  Getting the word out is key, especially since I am not Facebook friends with all of Tori's contacts.

I will provide updates on Tori's progress as she works through rehab.  In the meantime, please help.  This family has endured a lot of hardship this year.

Please donate today.  Please, please share this post (especially with other St. Peter members) and most importantly, pray for Tori's recovery, and strength for the family, in the days to come.

God bless and Peace always,
Leslie
