Help for the Rink family.

It’s hard to believe that it’s October again.  One year ago I came to you with an urgent plea to help my son and his family as they faced the most difficult time they could possibly endure: childhood cancer.  Your generosity and kind messages touched each of our hearts in so many ways.  We are eternally grateful.

This last year has been so tough on our little guy.  Judson turned 3 in June.  He was in the ICU fighting for his life on his special day.  In fact, he spent over 6 weeks in the hospital this summer due to sepsis and a fungal infection in his lungs.

Juddy has been hospitalized so many times that we have lost track.  His chemo regimen is very aggressive because T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma is very aggressive.  In addition to admissions, Jessie takes Judd to Roswell Cancer Center for countless blood transfusions, platelets, IVIG, and correction of electrolyte imbalances.  Those drives are 4 hours round trip.

We expected this treatment to be a roller coaster ride.  We have had heart wrenching lows of watching our boy go through all the horrors of chemo: vomiting, diarrhea, hair loss, bone pain, muscle atrophy, weight loss, and inability to eat.  There are high points that seem to come just in the nick of time: seeing him enjoy food, weight gain, new hair, eyelashes, and learning to walk over and over again.  The greatest joy by far is coming through a really rough time and seeing him smile again.  This little guy is my superhero.

We assumed that once we got over that initial hurdle, we would settle into a routine.  Life is anything but routine.  Those 4 hour drives and repeated hospitalizations require mama to be by Judd’s side.  It has been very difficult for Jessie to work with any consistency.

So, I’m coming to you again.... for help, for love, for prayers, for a donation if you can swing it.  This last year has taken a huge toll on Pat, Jessie, and their children.  Please shower them with your love.

Every two minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer.  Sadly, only 4% of federal cancer funds go toward pediatric research. Please consider writing to your elected officials and tell them that we’re not going to stand for that any more.  Our kids need us to be their voice.

There is an amazing non-profit organization in Western NY called Kallies’ Krusade Foundation.  Kallie Lynn was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of 21 months.  Kallie was always concerned about the other children she had met with cancer.  Now family and friends continue to share that love in so many ways. Kallie lost her fight to cancer just after her 3rd birthday.   If you prefer a gift to this foundation, we thank you for that.

God Bless! Dorothy
