This story starts in 2009 when Karl tore his patella tendon in early December. He was out of work and in a brace for almost a year. That started the snowball of financial struggles and medical surprises. In 2015 Karl was diagnosed with stage IV prostate cancer and shortly after finishing his first round of chemo, his doctors discovered he needed a heart valve replacement. Last year Karl started his second round of chemo to keep his cancer at bay. Last February I fell on my usual morning walk and fractured my knee and wrist, putting me in a locked knee brace.
Karl's treatment recommendations include continued chemo every day and every three months a hospital visit to do more intensive hormone treament and bone strengthening.
I must be in my locked knee brace for at least 4 more weeks, doing physical therapy twice a week. I have been unable to drive since the injury, Feb. 3rd. I am also in a wrist brace, which limits my
mobility and abilty to do the normal activities around the home.
As if all this wasn't enough to be a challenge, with medical bills rising, and a fixed income, we have been helping take care of our son and daughter-in-law (our veteran son has been in the hospital over the past two years more than he has been home, and unable to work), sharing our home so they, too have a safe place to live. Our savings has been depleted.
Now we have been given 30 days' notice that we must leave our home of thirteen years. With no money left, no place to go, and no contact with our landlord as to why, we need help, and fast. We have to be out April 8th.
Funds raised through this campaign will help us get into another home and meet the immediate medical bills.
