Help for Samuel Garde

Donation protected
Samuel Castor Garde & Theresa Mendoza Garde immigrated to the US from the Philippines in 2001 to find a better life & pursue the American dream. Sam worked multiple jobs before working at University of Miami wellness department as a senior maintenance mechanic. While Theresa works as a nurse at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
I’ve known Sam for over a decade now and I know how wonderful of a person he is. Sam is an incredible man. A loving husband to his wife, a very hard-working, devoted father to his only daughter 10year old Samantha, a caring brother and a cherished son.

In December of 2016, Sam started experiencing tingling and feeling of pins and needles in his left leg, and eventually to both legs, and after a few months of unexplained symptoms of weakness and noted muscle atrophy (“muscles wasting away”), after second opinions and multiple neurologist visits, he was diagnosed of Idiopathic Plexitis an idiopathic (means “of unknown cause”) disorder characterized by the acute onset of severe leg pain followed by wasting and weakness of the leg muscles.

They have tried many remedies they hoped would slow down the progression of the disease. However, within the last year Sam, went from walking with a cane to being 100% wheelchair bound, and needs maximum help in his activities of daily living.
Even though this harsh diagnosis, Sam maintains a remarkably good attitude and is refusing to give into bitterness and resentment. He continues to find ways to enjoy life by surrounding himself with friends and family. His faith and positive outlook in life allows him to focus on never giving up hope and to live one day at a time.

I wanted to start this go fund me account for Sam and his wife Theresa and for my God-daughter Samantha/ Tala because of the many unknowns of the disease. They are facing immense medical and incidental expenses as time goes by. Every little help counts, even a prayer lifted up to heaven will be greatly appreciated.

Sam believes that Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning how to dance in the rain. I am in awe of his positivity and grace through all of this.
