Help for Rodrigo Perez Dongo

English - (Español mas abajo) This is my nephew, Rodrigo Perez Dongo. Rodri is a 16 year old boy that lives in Peru and he is the strongest person that I know. Ever since he was born, he has been suffering from a genetic disease known as Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis causes a thick, sticky buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage, and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients. This disease requires daily treatment for life. The daily routine consists of airway clearance techniques with a special vest or from special exercises, inhaled medicines, and pancreatic enzyme supplements before every meal. When all these treatments fail, the only hope is being admitted to the hospital. The hospitals are extremely costly and painful. Rodrigo has been admitted to the hospital multiple times throughout his life. Sometimes the stays are a couple of weeks while other times they last a few months. The family also has to travel around a couple of times a year for checkups with specific doctors that can't be found in Peru. My sister has another son, Santiago, who is 5 years old  that has also been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. He is still little but he has already suffered a lot just like his brother. This is another set of costs that need to be accounted for. Hiring nurses and buying medicines for two kids is very expensive and it begins to build up quick. This year has been extremely difficult on the family on a physical, emotional, and financial level. My nephews, my sister, my brother in law, and the rest of our family suffer enough with the physical and emotional problems that tag along from this disease. The financial burden is just an extra that makes everything much more difficult. I am reaching out for financial help because I want to see my nephews have a better quality of life. I know that with some help from everyone combined, Rodrigo's and Santiago's quality of life will improve, and my sister and her husband will once again be able to afford the treatments keeping them alive. Rodri es un chico de 16 años que vive en el Perú y es la persona más fuerte que conozco. Desde que nació, fue diagnosticado con una enfermedad genética conocida como Fibrosis Quística. La Fibrosis Quística causa una acumulación espesa y pegajosa de moco en los pulmones, el páncreas y otros órganos. En los pulmones, el moco obstruye las vías respiratorias y atrapa las bacterias, lo que provoca infecciones, daño pulmonar extenso y, con el tiempo, insuficiencia respiratoria. En el páncreas, el moco impide la liberación de enzimas digestivas que permiten que el cuerpo descomponga los alimentos y absorba los nutrientes vitales. Esta enfermedad requiere un tratamiento diario de por vida. La rutina diaria consiste en técnicas de limpieza de las vías respiratorias con un chaleco especial o ejercicios especiales, medicamentos inhalados y suplementos de enzimas pancreáticas antes de cada comida. Cuando todos estos tratamientos fallan, la única esperanza es ser internado en el hospital. Los hospitales son extremadamente costosos y dolorosos. Rodrigo ha sido internado en el hospital varias veces a lo largo de su vida. A veces, las estadias son un par de semanas, mientras que otras duran unos meses. La familia también tiene que viajar un par de veces al año para chequeos con médicos específicos que no se pueden encontrar en el Perú. Mi hermana tiene otro hijo, Santiago, que tiene 5 años y también ha sido diagnosticado con Fibrosis Quística. Todavía es chiquito pero ya ha sufrido mucho como su hermano. Es otra serie de costos que deben tenerse en cuenta. Contratar enfermeras y comprar medicamentos para dos niños es muy costoso y comienza a acumularse rápidamente. Este año ha sido extremadamente difícil para la familia a nivel físico, emocional y financiero. Mis sobrinos, mi hermana, mi cuñado, y el resto de nuestra familia sufren lo suficiente con los problemas físicos y emocionales que acompañan a esta enfermedad. La carga financiera es solo un extra que hace que todo sea mucho más difícil. Busco ayuda financiera porque quiero ver a mis sobrinos tener una mejor calidad de vida. Sé que con la ayuda de todos, la calidad de vida de Rodrigo y de Santiago mejorará, y mi hermana y su marido podrán pagar los tratamientos que los mantienen vivos. ¡Cualquier tipo de ayuda es muy agradecida!
