Help for Rema

On Sunday, January 20th, around 930 pm, my sister Rema and her two coworkers were leaving their shift from the restaurant where they are servers.  They were crossing  in a crosswalk when Rema and her friend Danny were struck by a speeding SUV in the middle of the street, barely missing the third person.  They were struck full on by the vehicle, throwing Danny 15-20 feet and Rema rolled up the front of the vehicle and impacted on the windshield and sent her hurling through the air.  At this time, it is still unclear if the driver was under the influence, on her phone or just not paying attention.   She fled the scene and was not arrested or convicted for a hit and run. Fortunately both survived the accident but they sustained very serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

Rema's knee was broken in several different places  and fractured her patella requiring immediate reconstructive surgery as well as tore her MCL.  She suffered minor brain trauma and a hematoma in her brain with ongoing extreme vertigo.

Rema is a server and was a yoga instructor and often had multiple jobs to make ends meet.   In the Food & Beverage industry, many of us live paycheck to paycheck and every day you aren’t able to wait tables and make tips, your budget shrinks exponentially.  It can feel like the walls are closing in.

Rema has had to undergo very intense Physical Therapy but is doing everything she can to stay positive and keep A smile on her face in these troubling times.  Her co workers at the restaurant she works at helped exponentially doing everything they could to rally behind those two to make them feel loved, supported and that they're not left to fend for themselves.

Unfortunately the road to recovery for Rema has been a long and painful one. In addition to intensive physical therapy to heal her body  and trying to recover mentally from such a traumatic experience, Rema has had to undergo two additional surgeries on her knee after the initial reconstruction. The most recent being due to neglect on the hospitals part.  She is also suffering from memory difficulties as well as problems with her shoulder.

Her bills from the hospitals and emergency surgeries were already at an oppressive level and now there are still countless doctor visits that remain.  I hope to ease her  pain any way possible and at least provide her with the financial peace of mind for the next few months as she recovers from yet another invasive and painful surgery.

At the restaurant, her coworkers  had designated nights to hosting various fundraisers in her honor and that helped immensely with the initial surgery and healing, but now due to needing to heal yet again I wanted to reach out to friends and family for help. Our GoFundMe goal is $7,000 but that will really only cover the tip of the iceberg.  Anything you can donate, be it $5 or $100, helps in ways you can't even imagine.  100% of everything we raise will go directly to Rema and I hope that we can shatter the ceiling off the goal.   Thank you so much for helping our loved one in her time of need.
