<div>On July 3rd, my mom was rushed to the hospital with sepsis caused by her decompensated cirrhosis. She was so sick that the doctors immediately began an urgent liver transplant evaluation. After four long weeks of nonstop testing, setbacks, and prayers, she was added to the transplant list. Due to how sick she was, she was at the top of the list. Three days later, we got the call that would save her life—there was a liver for her.

<div>She made it through transplant surgery, and for the first time in weeks, we saw hope. A weight was lifted off our shoulders, she was in recovery and no longer suffering. Her recovery was going smoothly, so much so, that on August 15th, she was discharged to come home. I hadn't seen my mom so happy in a long time.

<div>But less than 24 hours later, the unimaginable happened. On August 16th, she suddenly got very dizzy. My sister and I checked her blood pressure and it was 70s/40s. We immediately called 911, and she was rushed to the local ER- an hour and a half away from her transplant hospital.

<div>Our local hospital struggled to keep her alive. They wanted to airlift her to the transplant hospital, however it was storming so bad that they couldn't. She ended up on an ICU ambulance, in which they turned their sirens off, drove under the speed limit, and in the right hand lane. They didn't take blood (even though they had given her 9 units before she left), and ran out of pressers. When she arrived, her blood pressure was in the 30s/10s. She was rushed into the OR. She was internally bleeding. The surgeons were able to stop the bleeding, but her battle was far from over.

<div>Since then, she has faced terrifying complications and harsh side effects of her medications, such as, hallucinations, seizures, kidney failure, hypothyroidism, respiratory failure, and unexplained confusion.

<div>They seemed to had figured out what was going on and things were looking up. My mom was transferred to inpatient rehab for the final stretch before being able to go home. She was doing great: going up and down up stairs for the first time in over half a year, walking over 1000 feet, and moving around with such ease.

<div>On September 30th, my mom was found unconscious in her room when they went to give her meds. She was non-responsive and was put on a ventilator and brought to the ICU at the rehab hospital. She has been transferred back to her transplant hospital and is currently in the Nuero ICU. They are currently working on figuring out what is causing her ongoing seizures and confusion.

<div>Through it all, my mom has shown unbelievable strength. She is a fighter. She has endured more than most people could ever imagine, yet she keeps holding on.

<div>My dad, who is disabled after multiple heart attacks and open-heart surgery, can’t drive and struggles with his own health. We’ve been living out of hotels and Airbnbs just to stay close to my mom through all of this (as we live about an hour and a half away). The medical bills, travel, lodging, and food costs have become overwhelming. My parents would never ask for help, but I know they need it.

<div>Today, October 2nd, marks day 91 away from home. We are exhausted, scared, and doing our best to stay strong for her.
