Help for Medley and Kevin

$43,000 of $50,000 goal

On July 9, 2019, Kevin and Medley Bokun had an explosion in their home which greatly injured both of them, after only 3 weeks of marriage. Kevin sustained mostly 2nd degree burns and some 3rd degree burns over the upper part of his body. Medley sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns on 95% of her body and is looking at 15-20 surgeries and 3 months of hospital care. These two are such loving and giving souls who have lost pretty much everything. These funds will go to assisting the family as they stay by their side to support them through this hard time, to help replace what was lost in the fire and to help with what’s going to be a lot of medical care. If you are able to give we thank you from the bottom of our hearts but even if you can’t give lift these wonderful people up in prayer.
Our God is an awesome God! He is a healer and the family is so thankful for your prayers!

Update on Kevin: The skin on the underside of his forearms is healing and causing quite a bit of discomfort. However, he’s still doing stretches, walking and working with occupational therapy. He has less bandages on his head and face and his new skin is appearing. Appetite is somewhat healthy as long as pain is manageable. Doctor said he will continue hydro and monitor skin this week and possibly do graft on his back next week. Thanks for your continued prayerful support for Kevin & Medley. #MedforaBokunHeart (From Kevin’s Mom)

Medley had another great day today. She had a procedure this morning to being grafting skin—her surgeon grafted skin on her hands, forearms, and where her IV lines are placed. Since that procedure, she has been resting well. She has been placed on another antibiotic to help fight off bacteria that can cause infection. She will return to the OR on Wednesday to check and clean everything again. Prayers are working, and God is doing something amazing #heartsformedley (From Leighton)

Medley, yet again, had another restful night. She is continuing to improve. She had Hydrotherapy this morning, and did very well. Because of her therapy, her nurse increased her sedation--which kept her resting comfortably for most of the afternoon. Her doctor plans to reduce her sedation over the weekend before taking her back to surgery on Monday morning. During our 8:00pm visit, she was fairly responsive. She was able to move her head, eyes, and mouth. As we prayed and sang to her, she moved her mouth in response. We had a very strong move of God in her room tonight.

Please, please, please keep your prayers coming--for Medley, for Kevin, and for our families.#heartsformedley (From Leighton)

Update on Kevin: Kevin’s doctor is very pleased with the healing of his skin. He said everything looks great. Occupational therapy has begun to work with him in order to use his arms, hands and neck. He has to stretch the muscles through exercises in his shoulder, elbow, wrist, hands, fingers, and neck. It’s painful, but he is being a very good patient. Pain seems to more controlled and overall less since he’s moving around more. Daily hydro-therapy is still a part of his regiment as well. We covet your prayers as Kevin and Medley continue on their road to recovery. #MedforaBokunheart ❤️ (From Kevin’s Mom)

As of our consultation today:

Medley, once again, had a restful night. Her vitals are stable, and her body is responding well to the antibiotic change her doctor initiated. Her white blood cell and platelet counts are steadily rising as well. She had a procedure this morning to remove the pig skin that her surgeon had placed to provide coverage and protection for her 3rd degree burns where skin excision was required. Her surgeon also assessed, cleaned, and redressed her burns. From his assessment, it looks like the lateral side of her leg and her calf will heal enough for her doctor to harvest skin for her coming grafts--this is a much larger area that may be available than originally thought. He will take her into the OR on Monday to actually start grafting skin over her hands, wrists, and the areas where her arterial/venous IV lines are placed. Until then, they will monitor her and make sure that she comfortable and stable.

We are continually praying for good reports. Please continue to pray with our families. #heartsformedley#clubmed4life (From Leighton)
