Regarding a dear friend of the Driveline family and former sound guy for the band.....
UPDATE ON LONA-
Lona was diagnosed with leukemia.
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (also called acute lymphocytic leukemia, or ALL) in children is cancer of the blood that starts in the bone marrow and spreads to the bloodstream. It’s thankfully the most common type of childhood leukemia and the one with the highest statistics for cure rate. I just pray her Down syndrome doesn’t complicate things.
Yesterday after her bone marrow biopsy, they originally told us results would take 2 days or more, but called us last evening and said that she was found to have leukemia cells present and that we needed to come back down to children’s today to have a cancer discussion and to be prepared for them to admit her and get treatment started right away.
Today we got here, and were told it was “ALL”. They are starting her on IV fluids tonight, and then in the morning she will have an Echo of her heart, a spinal tap done which will see if the leukemia is in her spine, she will have a mediport placed in her chest, and receive her first dose of chemotherapy.
They told us she will be inpatient for 2 months to start. They gave us the general “treatment schedule” which lays out about how long each course will take. This will last Atleast 2 1/2 years if she does well with treatment and her body responds to the medications they plan on giving her in this timeline. If we need to change her therapy or treatment it could go longer I guess.
We have a very long road ahead of us. We will do whatever it takes to beat this and make it through this. Lona is a fighter. Lona is so strong and tough. She is going to kick this cancer in the rear end! Please keep Lona (obviously) in your prayers and our family. It is soooooo hard for so many reasons. It is extremely difficult to have a 2 month old at home who needs me and Lona to be going through the biggest struggle of her life. That’s what she’s fighting for... LIFE. So please please please pray that our independent, strong and most loving little girl joins the team that says they beat this!!
