This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Telling this story makes this a reality and is forcing me to put my pride to the side and ask for help regarding my mom. On Saturday, September 16th my mom was hospitalized with severe abdominal pain. She was told there was a large mass on her pancreas as well as abnormalities on her lungs. The pancreas biopsy was positive for cancer. While performing the lung biopsy, her lungs filled with blood, collapsed and she went into cardiac arrest. Her heart stopped beating for 97 seconds and even when restarted she did not breathe on her own. She was intubated and we were told to prepare for her passing. The prayers of the righteous prevailed and she was breathing on her own by Thursday September 21st. The doctors say she's a miracle!! Here's why we need help. The diagnosis given on Friday the 22nd is advanced stage metastatic pancreatic cancer. With a prognosis of 6 months to a year, but just like she fought through to be where she is today - she can fight through this. She does not have medical insurance only hospital care. The cost of the prescriptions, medical equipment and home care has already begun and we have a long road ahead. The doctors say 6 months to a year for her life and I say she can be the one to beat the odds. I've been in contact with many social services and they're doing what they can to help us navigate this time. She's sat up today and even took a few steps, so I know she has a lot of fight left.
