Help for Gummybear

My dog, Gummybear, has suffered complications as a result of anesthesia for tooth extractions last week. It appears that she aspirated during the procedure – she was sent home despite her cough and deep abdominal breathing. I was told it was normal and probably a result of the pain. I can’t focus on that frustrating story now though, only her present condition and what I am faced with.

I took her to the animal hospital Friday night. She has been there ever since fighting for her life. She has a wonderful team of professionals working a concoction of meds and procedures to get her back to health. But her case is complicated and unusual.

She is suffering a combination of aspiration pneumonia, a swollen larynx and enlarged esophagus, and is still regurgitating at times. She has a temporary trach and oxygen to help her breathe.

The medical team is giving her very close 24 hour care but this comes at an enormous cost. I am very reluctant to ask for help but the bills of the last week have tapped me out. She is not ready to come home and I would like her to stay and continue her care as she is showing signs of improvement. If you can lend assistance to the cause in getting her (and me) around the next corner it would mean the world to me. I know this seems like a lofty goal but every bit helps.
