Help for Emilia's Surgery
I’m writing on behalf of my dear friend, Emilia (“Emi”) Coria Caraccioli, who lives with her 6 year old daughter, Matilda, in Mendoza, Argentina where I lived for two years. Emi is a wonderfully caring and compassionate person, so when I learned of her misfortune, I wanted to help in any way I could.
Emi is a single mother, working as a self-employed pastry chef (her cakes are amazing!), and she has been dealing with arterial problems in her brain for the past 6 years. Shortly after her daughter was born, Emi lost sight in her right eye during an operation. Last year she started having seizures, which were found to be caused by a hemorrhagic cavernoma, a cluster of abnormal blood vessels on the left side of her brain. Emi must be operated on as soon as possible before the bleeding advances, putting her remaining eyesight, motor skills, and speech at risk.
In order to have this specialized brain surgery, Emi must travel to Buenos Aires, on the other side of Argentina. Unfortunately, her medical insurance will not cover the surgery, nor will it cover the treatments, additional medical tests, travel, and accommodations for her and her mother when she’s in Buenos Aires for her surgery and recovery. Due to the economic downturn in Argentina, it’s impossible for her to personally pay her medical and other costs.
I’ve known Emi for 8 years. She’s a loving mother to Matilda and a supportive friend. When I was originally in Argentina, she made me feel welcome as I was adjusting to my new environment. I would be incredibly grateful for your support of Emi (and Matilda!) so that she’s able to have the brain surgery and get through this very difficult chapter in her life.

Les escribo en nombre de mi querida amiga, Emilia (“Emi”) Coria Caraccioli, quien vive con su hija de 6 años, Matilda, en Mendoza, Argentina, donde viví durante dos años. Emi es una persona maravillosamente cariñosa y compasiva, así que cuando me enteré de su situación, quería ayudar en todo lo que pudiera.
Emi es madre soltera, trabaja como pastelera independiente (¡sus pasteles son increíbles!), y ha estado lidiando con problemas arteriales en su cerebro durante los últimos 6 años. Poco después del nacimiento de su hija, Emi perdió la vista del ojo derecho durante una operación. El año pasado comenzó a tener convulsiones, y se descubrió que eran causadas por un cavernoma hemorrágico, un grupo de vasos sanguíneos anormales en el lado izquierdo de su cerebro. Emi debe ser operada lo antes posible antes de que avance el sangrado, lo que pone en riesgo su vista, sus habilidades motoras y el habla.
Para tener esta cirugía cerebral especializada, Emi debe viajar a Buenos Aires, al otro lado de Argentina. Desafortunadamente, su seguro médico no cubre la cirugía, los tratamientos, exámenes médicos adicionales, viajes y alojamiento para ella y su madre cuando estén en Buenos Aires para su cirugía y recuperación. Debido a la recesión económica en Argentina, se le hace imposible pagar sus gastos médicos.
Conozco a Emi desde hace 8 años. Es una madre cariñosa para Matilda y una amiga muy solidaria. Cuando estaba originalmente en Argentina, ella me hizo sentir como en casa mientras me adaptaba a mi nueva vida. Estaría increíblemente agradecida por su apoyo a Emi (¡y Matilda!) para que pueda tener la cirugía cerebral y superar este capítulo tan difícil de su vida.
