Help for Don Butler

Local Reserve Police Sergeant Donald J. Butler recently suffered the unimaginable and unexpected loss of his adult son. As you can see from the excerpt taken from a recent commendation provided that he goes so far above and beyond what most volunteers do for the community. This account was started as a way to provide him with funds related to the passing and funeral expenses for his son.
Res. Sgt. Butler has promoted and served in the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in more ways than
most. Just this fiscal year(Jan thru March) alone he has unselfishly volunteered 1,435 hours as a Reserve Officer working in various assignments
.
He stays in constant communication with the Asst. Chief, Lt’s, Sgt.’s and Patrolmen for his area providing them with crime information. He is also an active member of the Arlington Neighborhood Crime Watch which covers over 1,800 homes.
Reserve Sergeant Butler has been involved with the Neighborhood Crime Watch and the Sheriff’s Watch (formerly ShAdCo) since 2008. He keeps the 100+ members involved in walks, clean ups, and more with members calling in tips. As the Sheriff's Watch Chairperson of E1, E2 and E3 he keeps in touch with residents and businesses and relays information to the officers responsible for patrolling those areas. Additionally, he has assisted setting up crime watches in all three subsectors. Almost all have Secured Secret Facebook accounts to communicate with each other about crime activity in their neighborhoods. A total of 21 official Watch signs and around 60 Crime Stoppers signs have erected as a result of Res. Sgt. Butler`s efforts in these neighborhoods.
Each August of each year, he hosts the “National Night Out” with a picnic on his front lawn supported by the Sheriff’s Watch organization. During this event, he feeds many full time officers, members of Sheriff’s Watch and 200 neighbors.
