Help for Dave Schulman

Donation protected
David Schulman worked in law enforcement for 20 years. He worked in civilian jobs at Irvine PD, Santa Ana PD and was Reserve Police Officer at Santa Ana PD and Costa Mesa PD.  He left CMPD in 2003 with hope of joining CHP.  Along the way David sustained a neck injury that he dealt with on his own for many years.  While seeking treatment, David was subject a medical mishap with the misuse of a new treatment.  As a result of this mishap, Dave has suffered debilitating pain and suffering.   As a result of this fragile medical condition, Dave has not been able to work and he has suffered a series of personal and economic setbacks that put him precariously close to being homeless.  Recently, Dave started a series of treatments to neutralize the nerves that deliver the pain signals.  When this treatment is completed, Dave should be able to resume working. He is currently living out of his RV trailer and moving from park to park, but his primary tow vehicle is in need of expensive repair.  Fortunately, Dave is in a position where we can help him get back on his feet and stay on his feet and prevent him from becoming another homeless disabled person.  Along with the financial support, we are looking for help in getting Dave’s 2007 Chevy truck repaired so he can be mobile and help take care of his own treatment.  We are also looking for a location where Dave can have his truck and trailer and or store his truck and trailer at low or no cost.  One of the saddest aspects of Dave’s situation is that he has been mostly alone and isolated for a very long time and too embarrassed to let others know how difficult his situation is.  Dave will truly benefit from reconnecting with old friends and making new friends through this process.  It is not too late to keep Dave off the streets, but we must act fast.  Please help!

I am adding this part to enhance clarity and transparency for the gofundme account to help Dave Schulman.  My name is Clay Epperson and I am a friend and former co-worker of David Schulman.  I worked with Dave when he was a reserve police officer for the City of Costa Mesa.  I retired as police lieutenant from CMPD in 2009.  Recently, I reconnected with Dave when I saw some indications on social media that Dave was not doing very well.  As I got reacquainted with Dave, I could see that his condition was very precarious and that for a variety of reasons he was getting closer and closer to being homeless.  Dave’s primary issue is a severe problem with his neck and that includes debilitating pain.  Dave’s most pressing priorities have been to continue treatment (he believes he is now has a treatment plan to treat his pain), and to deal with some of his pressing financial issues.  These include getting his truck repaired (which will be costly but we are looking for lower cost alternatives), taking care of a high interest pink slip loan that Dave took out in desperation.  To handle these issues, I have asked go fund me to deposit funds in my checking account, so I can manage expenditures and develop a spending plan based on funds raised.  I realize that this is less than ideal, but I will need to be able to pay for a variety of things using check, debit card, and cash.  The only way I thought we could accomplish this in the short is by using my account.  Several donors had reached out to me to confirm that the donations would be going through a third party to insure that the donations will be spent wisely.  So far I have been covering some expenses using my checking account in anticipation of the first distribution of the donations.  As an example, today I wrote a check to DMV for $325.00 to bring Dave’s trailer registration current.  I will be keeping a records of all deposits and expenditures.  If anyone has any questions, ideas or advice, they can contact me via the gofundme link.  Thanks for your help on this important issue!
