A message from Heather Curry:
My husband left the Army in December 2015. We had goals and aspirations to move to the Raleigh area, where he would attend school at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and I would finish my degree in Hospitality Management. We had trouble in finding housing, which lead us to spending the last of our savings on a hotel and to provide for our children.
My husband has reached out to the VA to complete his disability compensation claim for conditions received in his three combat deployments, but the process is ongoing. He has not received any compensation as of now.
In July of 2017, with one more semester left in college, I began to apply for positions in the hospitality industry. Within days of submitting my resume, I got a phone call from a nationally-branded hotel chain for a sales and marketing position, in Myrtle Beach, SC. I felt on top of the world, finally receiving an offer for an opportunity to get our family out of my financial crisis, with a chance for us to begin to thrive! I graciously accepted the offer, and was given an orientation date – August 21, 2017.
Herein lies the challenge...
This opportunity feels like a blessing and I want to be able to see it through, to give my children the life that they deserve for their sacrifices over the past 12 years. We are requesting money to cover the moving expenses, including the security deposit of an apartment or house, and the costs of renting the moving vehicle to transport our belongings.
