Good news, Ava is doing better.  She is still at UCSF but getting stronger every day.  This is an update from her Grandma Cheryl, which she asked me to add to the site:

"Another big day for Ava they removed her ventilator! Huge step in her recovery. She is still receiving oxygen and will remain on the heart pump for a little while longer. Wow the Doctor just came in and they said they may even start doing test runs as early as Monday to see if the left side of her heart is able to start supporting her, they will also start physical therapy tomorrow to exercise her limbs. She is awake & alert but is experiencing some pain so receiving pretty strong pain meds. The basket in the picture is from the entire third grade class of Montair Elementary, it’s filled with cards, letters, pictures, toys. Thank you & everyone for the continued prayers and support  The Rhoades Family is truly Blessed."

One of our local families has their 9 year old girl, Ava, in critical condition at UCSF Pediatric Cardiac critical care unit in SF. She was rushed in a couple days ago after being run down and had no energy.  She was diagnosed with Myocarditis, which is a virus of the heart and it is very serious.  She’s on a special unit to allow her heart and body to rest.  It is expected she will be there for several weeks.  Ava is such a wonderful girl, full of life, smiles and determination. She is a joy to all around her.

As Ava’s family handles this tough time, we've set up a GoFundMe account to allow our great network of parents and people with good hearts to help where they can.  Ava’s Mother, Mary, is a single parent after Ava’s father passed away when she was young. At this time, any financial support you can provide would be extremely beneficial to help with bills while Mary has to take time away from work to deal with everything.

Let’s pull together and provide support to this amazing little girl and her family.
