Help Fix Sive's Mouth
Let's get to the point. If you know Sive, you know their mouth is their greatest asset. For their birthday this year we are fundraising to bring their smile back!
We understand 2020 hasn't exactly been a walk in the park for any of us. For anyone who has had major dental work done, you'd know how expensive and painful the process can be. While Sive is enrolled in DentiCal, they need four crowns not covered by insurance, and a root canal is required on each tooth before the crowns are put in. Out of pocket, these procedures will cost Sive $600 per tooth. On top of that, each crown must be inserted in a timely manner after the root canals. This means if we do not reach this fundraising goal by the year's end, all of the painful work performed on Sive's mouth so far will be futile.
As of now, Sive has been enrolled full time in classes at SF City College for a full year. Of course, COVID-19 has impacted their ability to find part time work to cover basic needs such as food and rent. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Sive is a fierce fighter who has overcome many obstacles in the past two decades - homelessness, drug abuse, and domestic violence - and has come out as a survivor in almost every sense of the word. For anyone who's met Sive you may know them as a true harm reduction warrior: no-nonsense, practical, ready for action, and well connected with the needs of their community members disproportionately affected by both environmental and economic violence. After a ten year hiatus, getting back to school has been Sive's number one priority, which has left them with very little wiggle room to acquire funds for the emergency dental work they need. Even for one of the city's hardest workers, the era of COVID-19 has diminished their ability to engage in gainful employment while focusing on their future. With no financial relief in sight and just days before their birthday on December 19th, Sive has given permission to start a crowdfund for their teeth. They express immense gratitude for the community support!
The $3,000 goal for this fundraiser is to fix Sive's mouth (well, cosmetically at least!) as well as provide a small cushion for basic necessities such as food and rent while they undergo these painful yet necessary procedures by their birthday, December 19th. Needless to say, all funds raised will go directly to the recipient.
