My name is Kevin Cooper,
I am a Bahamian Painter, father of two children and the loving husband of my wife HOPE.
We lived a wonderful happy life on a small, beautiful laid back island called Eleuthera. Eleuthera means freedom and life here on the island has been free and happy for us as a family until the 06th of July of this year 2020.
In late February my wife discovered a small lump in her breast.
We were not thinking of something serious but wanted to have this checked.
It was also the time that the first COVID-19 patient had been diagnosed in The Bahamas. The Bahamas just faced a complete lock down for several months.
Leaving our Island Eleuthera was prohibited by state regulations for months.
It was already the end of June 2020 when the initial lockdown of the country began to lift. Eventually we were able to see doctors at a small medical facility on Eleuthera.
We flew from the island of Eleuthera to the capital Nassau the very next day.
On July 6th 2020, everything has changed drastically and unexpected.
Hope, my beautiful wife of 28 years, and mother of our two amazing children, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in stage 4.
From one moment to the next our life was turned upside down.
Cancer Stage 4 means that the cancer has already spread to other organs or parts of the body. In Hope’s case it means that the cancer is not localized only to her breast but has already spread to small areas of her lungs, liver, within her bones, the lining of her brain, and behind her left eye.
From March to the end of June the small medical facilities of our Island Eleuthera were
closed to public due to strict lockdown regulations.
We have lost months which we will never get back as the cancer has used the time to grow
and spread, while we were locked up at home, not being able to see a Doctor.
My wife Hope was examined and we were told that there was no time to be lost,
to fly into the capital as soon as possible for further examination.
We had no choice but to leave Eleuthera our home for good.
Time and perspective on life have become very different since that day for all of us.
A journey of running against time and fighting bureaucracy.
With the guidance of family and the surgeon in The Bahamas,
we were referred to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas/ U.S.A..
On July 22nd 2020 our son Joshua 14, our daughter Taliah 22, my wife Hope and I,
were on the flight headed to Houston to begin a new life journey.
A journey which also taught us how we have often taken the most precious for granted in the past, LIFE and HEALTH.
By now we have already spent all our family life savings to have my wife and the mother of my children being treated in one of the best hospitals, the MD Anderson Cancer Center. The wonderful doctors and the nurses here in Texas are doing ALL they can, to save the life of my wife Hope. My kids and I are praying every day for a miracle to happen.
Our son Joshua and our daughter Taliah demand more than prayers from me as their father in this situation.
I am reaching out for your help now.
I do love my wife and together with my children I will fight the cancer and keep believing in
life and love We are running out of money and time.
I hate to ask other people for money.
But in this situation, it is the only way for me to support my family as a true father and husband.
More money than we have left is needed to afford the only promising treatment my wife Hope could still receive at this stage of her fight. The combination of the following meds Zoladex, Letrozole plus Verzenio is all we put our trust and hope in. After we have lost precious and valuable time to the global Pandemic restrictions we now have not a day to loose. We trust in the solidarity of human mankind in this so challenging times.
Our Goal for the fundraise is 85.000 Dollar to be able to afford the medicine as well as the needed medical check ups plus the traveling which comes along with the treatment.
At this point I am broke.
Money never meant anything to me and I have always been the one with the helping hand.
I find myself now on the other side - in need of help by others.
There is hope that my wife HOPE has a good chance to get better, fight the cancer and live. This is ALL we pray for. We united as family will do ALL what is in our power.

Im Februar dieses Jahres der globalen Pandemie entdeckte meine Frau Hope einen kleinen Knoten in ihrer Brust. Wir hatten zunächst nichts schlimmeres befürchtet, wollten dennoch eine medizinische Untersuchung in der kleinen Klinik hier auf unserer Insel Eleuthera vornehmen lassen.
Die neuen staatlichen COVID Regulierungen hatten genau in dieser Zeit dafür gesorgt, dass sämtliche Kliniken sowie auch alle anderen Geschäfte, Schulen und alles was unser Leben hier ausmachte bis Ende Juni 2020 geschlossen wurden.
Wir verloren wertvollen 4 Monate, denn auch das Reisen nach Nassau, der Hauptstadt der Bahamas war untersagt und unter Strafe gestellt. Kostbare Lebenszeit die uns gestohlen wurde.
Meiner Frau ging es von Woche zu Woche schlechter und sie hatte Schmerzen in der Brust.
An manchen Tagen ging es besser an anderen war sie nicht mehr sie selbst.
Gegen Ende Juni wurden die Regularien bezüglich des Reisens in die Hauptstadt Nassau gelockert und auch die kleine Klinik hier in Eleuthera öffnetet ihre Türen wieder für uns.
Nach einer ersten Untersuchung hier auf der Insel wurde uns dringenst geraten sofort und umgehend nach Nassau zu fliegen, um dort im Krankenhaus weitere wichtige Untersuchungen durchführen zu lassen.
Gleich am nächsten Tag sind meine Familie und ich zusammen nach Nassau geflogen.
Im Krankenhaus in Nassau wurde meine liebe Frau HOPE komplett durchgecheckt.
Das Ergebung der Untersuchungen hat uns den Boden unter den Füßen weggezogen. Alles was uns einmal wichtig war hatte jetzt plötzlich keine Bedeutung mehr.
Meine Frau HOPE bekam am 06. Juli 2020 die Diagnose -BRUSTKREBS im STADIUM 4.
Der Krebs hatte die Monate der Lockdowns genutzt und bereits Metastasen in den Knochen, im Gehirn hinter dem linken Auge sowie in Bereichen der Lungen gebildet.
Wir hatten und haben keine Zeit mehr zu verlieren.
Am nächsten Tag saßen meine Frau HOPE unsere beiden Kinder, unser Sohn Joshua und unsere Tochter Taliah im Flugzeug auf dem Weg nach Houston Texan in den U.S.A.
Unsere gesamten Lebensersparnisse habe wir dafür eingesetzt, dass meine Frau Hope hier in der MD Anderson Krebs Klinik in TEXAS , die eine der besten der Welt ist behandelt werden kann. Die Ärzte und Schwestern hier leisten eine phänomenale Arbeit.
Da der Krebs bereits Metastasen gebildet hat, liegt unsere große und eine unserer letzten Hoffnungen in einer sehr teuren aber vielversprechenden Therapie.
Durch eine noch relative neue Medikamenten-Kombination, die unter Beobachtung von Ärzten erfolgen muss, gibt es gute Chancen das die Lebensqualität meiner Frau Hope deutlich verbessert werden kann und die Zeit die wir als Familie zusammen auf dieser Erde erleben dürfen verlängert. Wir sind verzweifelt und wenden uns heute an jeden der ein Herz hat ,mit einer noch so kleinen Spende Solidarität zu zeigen.
Als Ehemann und Vater bin ich in der Pflicht alles menschenmögliche zu tun um meiner Frau und der Mutter meiner Kinder zu helfen.
Ich habe in der Vergangenheit in meinem Leben eigentlich immer auf der anderen Seite gestanden und anderen geholfen. Sei es mit Geld oder mit meiner Zeit.
Nun wende ich mich an sie. An Menschen die mitempfinden können, die helfen wollen und können, die Liebe leben und nicht wegsehen wenn andere Hilfe brauchen.
Jede noch so kleinen Spende ist ein Zeichen der Liebe und eine Riesenhilfe.
Ich als Vater und Ehemann bin in einer verzweifelten Lage aber ich habe Hoffnung und Glauben auf Leben. Diese Hoffnung werde ich nie aufgeben.
Daher noch einmal unsere Bitte an SIE, bitte unterstützen sie meine Frau HOPE im Kampf gegen den Brustkrebs. Die Medikamente die wir so dringend und so schnell es geht benötigen heißen LETROZOLE und VERZENIO. Sie müssen unter Aufsicht und Begleitung erfahrenen er Ärzte eingenommen werden. Unser finanzielles Ziel um alles bewältigen zu können liegt bei 85.000 US Dollar.
Ich werde niemals aufgeben und als recht bekannter Maler aus den Bahamas aber in erster Linie als Mensch möchte ich 5 meiner Bilder per Losverfahren an Spender versenden.
