Ascend Athletics is an organization that was established in 2014, dedicated to empowering and encouraging young Afghan women and girls to pursue leadership roles through mountaineering. The women and girls who were involved with Ascend for all these years, are now targets for Taliban retribution due to their prominent roles as activists in their communities.










On September 5th, 2021, a group of Madison women climbers will be walking 31 miles from Lodi, Wisconsin to Devils Lake State Park to help raise support for Ascend.














Ascend has two URGENT requests as the Taliban continues to take over in Afghanistan.

<li>First, they are requesting US citizens to contact their representatives in Washington and to encourage them to continue to support efforts to ensure vulnerable Afghans can safely leave the country. It is also vitally important that the US creates federal programs to assist those already resettling in the US.
