Help family of Kyle Dunivan with memorial expense

Hello, my name is Frances. I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of the family of Kyle (Ky) Chase Dunivan.

Ky has been a missing person since the early morning hours of June 30, 2020. He was last known to be in the vicinity of 18th Street and I-70 in KCK. His phone records indicate that the last call he made was to 911, but the reason or circumstances surrounding the call are still unknown. Many search attempts were made by his friends and family which never yielded any promising results. Just over a year later in July 2021, a KDOT employee discovered human remains hidden from view near the Bayard Ave and 18th St expressway bridge. The family was notified that the remains would be sent off for DNA analysis and for comparison to a sample provided by Ky’s family.

 

It is with overwhelming sadness that after 5 long months of waiting, I report that the remains discovered last July have been positively identified as belonging to Ky. This news is received with bittersweet emotions. Completely heartbroken by his loss, there is some relief in knowing that he has been found and that his family and friends will finally be able to lay him to rest and start the painful process of saying goodbye.

 

In the year and a half since his disappearance, I have not only reconnected and built an amazing bond and friendship with Ky’s mom and little sister, I have witnessed unimaginable strength and resilience in the face of tragic uncertainty. I don’t have the words to describe the level of anguish and despair that come from not knowing what has become of someone you love. Suspending grief to hold onto hope when all seems hopeless. Trying to juggle life and bills and the everyday struggle with responsibilities on top of immeasurable anxiety and sadness is something nobody should have to do, let alone for a year and a half.

 

As you can imagine, the journey Ky’s family embarked on in June 2020 has been physically, emotionally and financially taxing. Having finally found him is only a small piece to a much larger puzzle. There are still so many unanswered questions. We still don’t know the cause of his death, or who put him where his body was eventually found. Investigators have been reluctant to share information beyond the confirmation of his remains. We don’t know how or why he died. We don’t know the nature of his 911 call beyond it being a call for help.

 

It is with this fundraiser that I hope to raise enough funds to help his family afford the final arrangements for Ky. It would mean the world to Ky’s mom and the rest of those who loved him, that we be able to give him the kind of memorial service that he truly deserves. It will be our way of saying that, “We never gave up the search to bring you home”, and hopefully help to initiate the long awaited grieving process.

 

Kyle was a devoted Father of three. Two boys; Chase and Hunter and a baby girl, Kacey who was named for him (KC). Sadly, Ky never got to learn that he’d be expecting a daughter, and she will never get to know the dad that would have fiercely loved and protected her every second of every day, as he did his boys.

 

Ky was an amazing Son, Brother, Father, Friend and truly had a heart of gold. He was silly, but proud. Funny but respectful. Honest, hardworking, and trustworthy. Kyle was the kind of person that no matter how long it had been since you last spoke, you could count on him to be there when you needed him. Now it’s our turn to be there for him, and we humbly ask and appreciate anything that can help us lay him to rest, and hopefully continue the journey of finding more answers.
