Help family of 10 fight Lyme Disease

Donation protected
We are raising money to test for and treat each family member for Lyme disease.  It took me several years (6+) of testing and going to specialists and spending a ton of money to finally have a diagnosis of chronic Lyme disease.  As it turns out Canada is way behind when it comes to knowledge, testing and treatment for Lyme disease, most people are under the false belief that there are no ticks in Alberta or Lyme disease itself.  Anyway, it all seems to trace back to our visits to New Hampshire and Connecticut, our son was there attending a school for boys discerning the priesthood, also a seminary in Connecticut.  We did a lot of hiking and camping not thinking about ticks, because growing up in Alberta that wasn’t something we thought about.  So we sat in the grass on picnics (oops, big mistake!) or didn’t wear the proper clothing, didn’t do tick checks and had many incidents of finding them everywhere!  Coming out of cuffs of pants, one on my daughters chest, in our car, in our hotel room and even in our hair! The blow dryer became our new bestfriend.  We never thought we were victims of Lyme disease.  Now we are in a situation where 3 of us have tested positive by mailing blood samples to a lab in Germany, at $1200 a pop, and it’s very likely we all have it!  The only clinic here that specializes in Lyme disease has naturopathic doctors and the medicine to treat costs $2600 for 3 months/person. It will take 2-4 years to treat/person, yikes!!  We have 8 children.  So unless we get some help we can only afford to treat 1 person at a time, and that means some of us will get sicker and sicker.  When I went to my own doctor her reply was “I don’t know about Lyme disease”, so not helpful.  The medical doctor in our area, that knows about Lyme, is not taking in new patients.  There is a lot of misinformation about Lyme disease out there and insurance companies don’t help cover the costs.  There are so many people suffering with this who have been told it’s all in their heads, how incredibly sad.  We are thankful to finally have a diagnosis and are full of hope in defeating this disease!  It is a hard time for us though, are immune systems are suppressed so facing this pandemic is extra scary but we have our faith and each other and will get through this.  Thanks for reading this and if you are able to help us in the slightest, every little bit will be greatly appreciated!  God bless you.  The Sprinkhuysen family
