Help family heal after tragic loss to cancer

Donation protected
I am writing on behalf of the Barnes family that has been through so much recently.  One of my former students, Sydney, has been struggling with more than any 20 years old should ever have to deal with at that age.  She is a single mother struggling to make ends meet, but just recently her family was hit with a tragedy beyond comprehension.  Her beautiful sister, Shanterrica, lost her battle to stage IV breast cancer.  Shanterrica left this world too soon and leaves behind  5 precious children ages 6, 8, 9, 12, and 14 years of age.  My former student and her mother, Hillary,  are left to not only grieve the loss of their sister/daughter but to handle the expense of the funeral and caring for her five children.

In today's world with balancing sanity amidst a pandemic, living with the realities of the current civil rights movement, the anger of watching their loved one add to the statistics of the systemic racism in this country that has created the reality in which Black women are  42% more likely to die of breast cancer than White women- this family should not have to also worry about where the rent money is coming from, how the food will be put on the table, and having to make difficult financial decisions regarding funeral arrangements for their loved one.  This family needs time to heal, grieve, and honor their loved one.  Please join me in helping to support this family and Shanterrica's 5 beautiful children as they begin to pick up the pieces of their lives and help provide more stability for her children. This family lost their mother, daughter, sister, and friend WAY too soon.  Grief is hard enough- but no one should be put in a position to push aside the healing process of grief to focus on survival.

This money will be used to assist the family in the funeral arrangements, help both Sydney and Hillary move to help take care of Shanterrica's 5 children, and provide this family with the support they need to these children and family members transition into their new normal without the worry of financial hardships. Please give what you can and know that we are immensely grateful for your kindness and support.
