Help Families On The Bone Marrow Transplant Unit
Hey! I’m Amy and my little boy, Cornelis is currently having a bone marrow transplant at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
Having a BMT is a lengthy process involving chemotherapy and isolation from 6-8 weeks and in some cases even longer than that.
The children have to stay in the same room and aren’t allowed outside at any point, along with this their career or parents have to isolate with them as much as possible meaning on a day to day basis - they see their room and a parents room.
All the rooms here are sterile with no home comforts and are extremely outdated. It’s hard being away from family and home for so long and especially when going through such a tough time. I’ve been lucky and have been able to afford buying myself some home comforts for this place but some families just can’t. Some do unpaid work to stay on their jobs, some quit their jobs and some just don’t have the income.
I’m looking to raise money to purchase some things for the rooms that are helpful but also might add a bit of comfort in a scary time. Being a mum to a patient on this unit already, I have the inside look at what is desperately needed.
Any money raised will be spent completely on new equipment or comforts for the rooms and the families on here.
I’m looking to buy some UV sterilisers so they can easily sterilise things such as their phones, some nice treats to snack on while here, some toys for the children and the rooms, some nightlights and as I go on, I’ll look at things we could potentially add to the parents room too.
Any donation is so much appreciated and know that you will be making a direct difference to someone’s stay in hospital.
Thank you!
