<a href="https://youtu.be/-F1IBtZeqT4" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><iframe media_type="0" media_id="-F1IBtZeqT4" class="youtube-replace" title="YouTube video player" style="margin-bottom:20px;width:560px;height:315px;" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/-F1IBtZeqT4/?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="1"></iframe> Parade to welcome home 22 year Garland ISD SRO veteran Rene Granado and his son Fabian after his 6 month battle with COVID in Florida</a><a href="https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/27-year-old-garland-man-fighting-for-life-against-covid-19/2732708/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">  <iframe media_type="0" media_id="fW_34b8BLkI" class="youtube-replace" title="YouTube video player" style="margin-bottom:20px;width:560px;height:315px;" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/fW_34b8BLkI/?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="1"></iframe></a>27-year-old Fabian Granado is fighting for his life against COVID-19 at the University of Florida Hospital-JAX. A Texas native, he was attending the <a style="font-size:1.0625rem;" href="https://www.commercialdivingacademy.com/underwater-welding.cms" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">CDA Technical Institute Commercial Underwater Welder program</a> in order to build a successful career. Early in August, Fabian began feeling under-the-weather, but determined to achieve this life-goal, he continued with his education. Approximately ten days later when he didn’t get up for class, Fabian’s roommate unsuccessfully tried to wake him. Noticing that Fabian was also struggling to breathe, he called 911 and an ambulance rushed Fabian to the hospital. Diagnosis: Fabian had COVID-19! His condition was critical and exacerbated by pneumonia. Doctors were forced to intubate and sedate Fabian in an attempt to save his life.


Rene, a single father of two and a thirty-four-year veteran of the Garland, Texas Police Department received the call every parent dreads. The ER doctor from out-of-state notified him of Fabian's condition: “He is on his way to surgery to be intubated”. Incomprehensibly,  Rene was also advised that due to hospital COVID-19 restrictions, he shouldn’t travel to be with Fabian because he wouldn’t be allowed to see him. Devastated, but hopeful regarding Fabian’s prognosis, Rene immediately started to pray and spread the news for others to join in prayer. My family and I humbly ask for your continued prayers for Fabian, Rene and their family.

Unfortunately, Fabian’s condition continued to rapidly decline leading the doctor to call Rene and advise him to come to Florida and prepare to say goodbye to his son. After four cancelled flights leading to a 15-hour drive, Rene met with Fabian’s team of doctors. They came to an understanding: “We are fighting to save Fabian’s life. We are not giving up!” 


As of today, Fabian is intubated, as well as on both <a href="https://www.dellchildrens.net/services-and-programs/therapy-rehabilitation/ecmo/how-does-ecmo-work/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ECMO</a> and dialysis machines while valiantly fighting for his life. <a href="https://www.froedtert.com/stories/ecmo-how-respiratory-machine-can-effectively-treat-covid-19-patients" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">How ECMO Can Effectively Treat COVID Patients</a>, <a href="https://www.medicaldevice-network.com/features/ecmo-covid-19-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Extracorporeal organs save sickest COVID patients</a>. The ECMO is helping by providing time for Fabian’s lungs to heal. Small but positive signs are seen whenever family and loved ones visit with Fabian in person. It is critical that these visits continue to happen. The Kelleys and Granados are life-long friends. Rene was the Best Man at our wedding. Our children consider each other to be cousins and we treat Enrique and Fabian as one of our own. The Granados are usually the ones who are serving others, seeking nothing in return. They go out of their way to selflessly provide comfort and assistance to those in need. As a School Resource Officer, Rene has served his community as a mentor for countless school children and at-risk youth.


I’ve created this GoFundMe campaign to assist Rene so he can be with his son, Fabian. Nurses have confirmed time with his father and family have shown positive signs in him. Rene has humbly agreed to accept the love and generosity so  many in the community want to extend. Please pray and share Fabian’s story on all your social media platforms. His blood oxygen is very low. He is intubated and sedated.


12 Aug Prognosis doesn’t look good. Outer lining of lung tissue is very thin with tiny holes and oxygen is escaping into his chest cavity, i.e., pneumothorax.


13 Aug Fabian remains the same in critical condition. He continues to be intubated and sedated. They have added a feeding tube to provide nutrition. His lungs are in bad shape, but the rest of his organs are good. The hospital arranged a Google Meet call. They briefly lowered his sedation. He was able to have a Google Meet call with his Dad, Rene. Fabian was able to move his head, hands and give a thumbs up to inquiries by the staff (obviously, he couldn’t talk because of the intubation). He’s still being sedated and in critical condition.


14 Aug Some good news for a change. Fabian is showing minor improvements. Rene expresses his thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. He can’t express how much all this support for Fabian means to him and the family.


16 Aug A Zoom call was set up in which Rene, Britt, Brendan, Alissa, Tanner, Alex F., and Alex S. Although the sedation level was not lowered, the nurses assured that Fabian could hear them.


17 Aug From encouraging news on Saturday to bad news today. Fabian's numbers have declined and the hospital asked for Rene to come to Jacksonville. They believe it's time for some hard decisions. Please keep the family in your prayers. “Ding ding. Round 1 with prayers for a Godly Miracle. At best (for now) this will be a long fight. I know prayers are being heard. Lord God has heard our prayers. I know God is touching Fabian and all of us praying. Please continue! Thank y’all, THANK Y’ALL!!! I’m doing good right now due to all the incredible support.” Rene`


18 Aug They are placing Fabian in a prone position for a few hours, which allows for better expansion of the dorsal (back) lung regions, improved body movement and enhanced removal of secretions which may ultimately lead to advances in oxygenation. They have “medically paralyzed” him so he allows the movement to this position. Rene says: • He is still medically paralyzed. • The prone position has helped. • Five loved ones have been able to visit him thus far. • Nurses say he probably hears us. • Although sedated, tears ran out of one eye when Rene first talked to him


19 Aug Rene arrived at hospital late last night. This morning met with team of doctors including his pulmonologist. He is a Christian and has been praying for Fabian. Rene says, “we and the hospital have an understanding – we are fighting to save his life. We are not giving up!” His doctors/medical team are hopeful but say Fabian’s lungs are bad and very damaged. There could be a 6- to 8-month recovery. Praise God! Thanks for your continued prayers. Although sedated, tears ran out of one eye when Rene first talked to him.


21 Aug God is at work and has provided a Miracle of Hope. Praise and Thanks to God! Fabian’s numbers have dropped some in the past two days. Not good, but not unrecoverable. Fabian is still in a very critical place. His lungs are bad and unable to sustain his life on their own. His numbers have been on the decline. Today looked bad. God and prayers are what we need and thousands are praying! Amen! 22 Aug Fabian has been given an ECMO machine. The ECMO takes the blood out of his body, removes the CO2, puts in O2, and returns the blood. Sort of replaces the function of his lungs. Gives his lungs a chance to heal. There are few ECMOs available and all being used. Rene says, Miracle is that: 1) one ECMO became available and  2) Fabian was selected to be on it!!!! THANK YOU LORD!!! 3)Hospital just called. His numbers and body are responding well. Woohoo!! More to come. Long way to go. I'm praising and praying. 23 Aug Miracles from God! The ECMO machine is having very positive results. Praise be to God! • His blood O2 levels are good. Keeps his body alive and well. His swelling is gone. His temperature is normal. The refrigerated blanket is gone. His extremities are not hot. The ventilator level is way reduced. There is a nurse as well as an ECMO nurse on him nonstop. Wow! Miracle. • They will reduce his sedatives occasionally to allow him consciousness for periods. • I will be allowed to visit as much as I can during visitation hours. • Lungs are bad, but now have time to recover while the rest of his body is being kept normal with ECMO and God’s Will. 24 Aug Rene arrived at hospital unit and was immediately told to wait in family waiting room. He was finally allowed in to see Fabian and spent 2 ½ hours with him. Part of his ventilator had to be replaced. He is still 100% ventilator and the ECMO is running high. They are debating dialysis. O2 level is good. He is down to one sedative drip. He still struggles physically and this sets him back.


25 Aug Yesterday was a BAD day. Today is better. The nurses and doctors are still working for Fabian. Better day today. If prayers could be seen, there would be fog over Jacksonville. Praise be to God!


26 Aug Fabian had small minor improvements today. Woohoo! His doctor even mentioned a procedure being possible late next week! However, the doctor reminds that Fabian is still deep in the woods. 26 Aug Thank you for everyone's prayers including Second Baptist Church, Springfield, Missouri for the Prayer Meeting tonight.
