<div>We are a close-knit family of four — Sinead (Mum), Dugald (Dad), our eldest daughter Katina (16), and our youngest, Eve (5). Like many families, our lives were filled with school runs, never ending sport, laughter, and the everyday chaos of parenting two wonderful daughters. But in early April, everything changed when Eve, our bubbly, healthy little girl, suddenly became very unwell.

<div>Over the past several weeks, Eve has been through an incredibly challenging and confusing medical journey. What started as jaundice in early April — yellowing of her eyes and skin — quickly escalated into serious liver concerns. After several hospital stays and tests, doctors found her liver wasn’t working properly, with extremely high levels of bilirubin and other concerning results. A liver biopsy revealed a rare genetic condition called *Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency*, which can affect the liver, but it didn’t fully explain the severity of what she was experiencing.

<div>After some improvement with medication and a hopeful return to a bit of normal life, things took a sudden turn. Just days after her 5th birthday, Eve developed unexplained bruising and red spots on her skin. Tests showed that her bone marrow — the part of the body that makes blood — had stopped producing the cells she needs to stay healthy and fight infections. She now needs regular blood transfusions while doctors work to find answers.

<div>Right now, her medical team is focusing on two main possibilities:

<div>* *Aplastic Anemia* – a rare and serious condition where the body stops making enough blood cells.
</div>
<div>* *Leukemia* – a type of blood cancer that can also stop blood cell production.
</div>

<div>There’s also a strong possibility that Eve has a rare complication called <strong>Hepatitis-Associated Aplastic Anemia </strong>— where the liver inflammation she had earlier triggered her bone marrow to shut down weeks later. It’s rare, but it fits the timeline and symptoms.

<div>A bone marrow biopsy has been done to give a clearer diagnosis, and we’re now waiting on those critical results.
</div>

<div>No matter the outcome, Eve faces a long recovery and will need ongoing treatment and support.
