I've spent most of my adult life being overweight; through many years of yo-yo dieting. I'll lose 30 pounds, and gain 45. Lose 50 pounds, and gain 60. I am now over 420 pounds.
I've taken care of people most of my working life but have never been good at taking care of myself. My health is getting worse and worse. My hips, knees, and legs continually hurt - especially when I exercise. It's a bit of a Catch-22: I'm fat so I need to exercise to lose weight, yet excercising is hard because I'm fat.
Though I continue to try to lose weight through diet and exercise, I feel I now need to take more extreme measures. I have started the process of getting approved for weight loss surgery; a vertical sleeve gastrectomy to be exact. In a nutshell, a surgeon will remove 75-80% of my stomach to restrict my food intake and help me lose weight. It's not a magic bullet. Even with weight loss surgery, I'll need to continue implementing lifestyle changes that I'm already working on adopting. The surgery is a tool to help me get to a healthier weight. I am 4 months into the 6 month approval process. So far things look good with all of the tests I have taken.
Who know I could pass a psych eval?!?
When all is said and done, insurance will cover 80 percent. The remaining balance will be upwards of $6,000. I am saving my pennies (because I am basically paid in pennies). Tessa will be helping me out with the cost, and now I am asking you all for some help as well.
Please help me raise the money for weight loss surgery. I have a lot more I want to do in life and will not blow this opportunity. Anything you can give will help. Whether it is dollars or emotional support, I could use it.
