ERIN VS. CANCER

Spende geschützt
Heal me, LORD, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise. (Jeremiah 17:14)

Erin Mazelin McNamara, daughter of Steve and Cynthia Mazelin was born and raised in Indianapolis with her two siblings, Shannon Mazelin Wiltshire and Mark Mazelin.   Erin’s parents instilled in her a solid foundation of faith as she attended grade school at St. Thomas Aquinas in Indianapolis and went on to attend Bishop Chatard High School.  It was in her circle of friends there she met the love of her life, Johnny Francis McNamara, and she married at the young age of 20.  John and Erin became members of St. Luke Catholic Church of Indianapolis and started a family of their own.  They have four beautiful daughters.  Meghan is 22 and getting married in May of 2019, Courtney is 20 and is an esthetician, Delaney is 14 and a freshman at Highlands Latin School, and Maeve is 9 and is homeschooled.  Homeschooling has always been a large part of Erin’s life.  When she and John moved to the Fishers/Pendleton area in 2005, they joined St. John Vianney Parish of Fishers.  Erin eventually led the Homeschooling Ministry there for 2 years.

John is a Union Iron Worker in Local 22, working hard to provide for his family, often finding himself working away from home months at a time.  Distance does not separate the hearts of John and Erin as their love for each other is undeniable.  Erin has given 110% to her family over the years.   It was in February of 2017 when Erin decided to do something for herself.  She walked into Carmel Total Fitness gym for the first time.  “I was overweight and out of shape.”   Surrounded by her new tribe and under the guidance of her coach, Erin lost 30 pounds through weight lifting and improving her diet.   The gym didn’t just tweak Erin, it transformed her.   Erin was feeling healthier than ever!  Erin was now mentally, spiritually and physically fit as God was preparing her for something greater.

On May 7th of 2018, the course of life as the McNamara’s knew it would change.  At the young age of 43, Erin was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer that had metastasized to her liver. She immediately went into surgery where they removed a tumor along with a foot and a half of her colon.  Erin remained in the hospital for 12 days surrounded by loved ones.  Erin recovered beautifully from her surgery.  Her surgeon said that it was a good thing that she had lost the weight and got in shape because it helped her recover from surgery faster and he, along with her oncologist, encouraged her to continue lifting weights as it is important for her overall health. Prayers of thanksgiving John was able to take the summer off to take care of Erin and the two younger girls by means of a generous friend who supported them financially during that time. On June 14th, with her love by her side, Erin started chemotherapy to address the tumors on her liver.  After three chemo treatments the bills started to pile up and it was time for John to return to work….miles away.

Eighteen Weeks later, Erin has completed six cycles of chemotherapy.  This is not where her story ends, this is where her story begins.  At the completion of Erin’s last chemo treatment new scans were taken.  The oncologist reported her scans looked beautiful. There was no evidence of new growth and her tumors had responded to the chemo. The scans showed shrinkage. In the moment this is great news. Keep reading. Erin’s oncologist shared with Erin that she would now enter “maintenance.”  This would consist of oral chemo daily and a non-chemo drug (Avastin).  Every 3 weeks Erin would receive Avastin through an IV for the reminder of her life as long as her body can tolerate it or when the cancer cells start to grow again whether that’s four, six or ten months down the road.  Erin would then need to return to IV chemo.  The goal is to “keep things in check”. I don’t need to share the painful and serious side effects of chemo.  Her oncologist had politely whispered in her ear “Mrs. McNamara, you have Stage IV Colon Cancer that has metastasized…” during a previous treatment when Erin asked a question about her healing. This gave Erin the courage and strength to take a leap of faith.  Erin with the love and support of her family, made the decision to discontinue treatment.  She does not want to just exist, ERIN WANTS TO LIVE!  With the support of a dear friend, Erin will be traveling to the Hoxsey Bio Medical Clinic in Mexico on November 5th, 2018. This clinic specializes in natural alternative therapies for cancer.  Erin has found peace in this new hope.  She will be drastically changing her lifestyle to help promote wellness and healing.  Many of the alternative therapies Erin will be receiving are not covered by insurance.  Erin and John realize for her to be able to do this, they must let go of their pride and humble themselves and ask for help.  With their permission, I have organized this GO FUND ME campaign so that Erin can live.   She is ready to do this, God has been preparing her.  Erin knows Christ’s love, feels Christ’s love and may she continue to see His love in your support.  First and foremost, His grace is greater than all our sin.  Please pray for Erin for a complete healing.   May Erin always have strength in body, courage in spirit and patience in pain.  Pray for her family that they may have patience, understanding and a love that perseveres, not only for Erin, but for Christ.  Please pray that in their moments of weakness they will turn to Him.  May Erin’s family always trust there is victory over the enemy. Ultimately, we know who our true physician and healer is.  AMEN!  Second, please share Erin’s story.  I do believe that suffering unites our hearts with Jesus.  May you be called to offer up your own suffering not only for Erin but for all those suffering from incurable diseases.  Third, please pray John can find permanent employment that will best utilize his skill set in Indianapolis. Lastly Erin, John and the girls greatly appreciate any financial support for Erin on her journey.  No donation is to small or to great!

Thank you for your prayers. “Surrounded by love is a good place to be….”
