Hello, my name is Ericka Apps. On June 9, 2023 my daughter Tayler Foreman was in a horrible car accident. Exactly three hours after I watched her receive her high school diploma. I was standing in the hospital, watching her suffer from an internal decapitation.
Tayler attended Fairfield High School where she planned and dreamed of becoming a doctor. During her senior year she completed a medical assistant corse. This course would allow her to work hands on in hospitals while she prepared for medical college. She was cheerleader, softball player and a inspiration to her peers. Tayler was employed with Canes Chicken just shy of 2 years when she experienced this tragic accident.
Taylers recovery was miraculous and jaw dropping. Her results after such a life threatening injury were incredible. With in six weeks of repairing her broken neck by fusion to the head and spine. Tayler was able stand, walk, talk, use the bathroom, climb stairs and feed herself. Unfortunately her surgery was done incorrectly. Her hardware was put on wrong causing it to compress down on a major nerve. Over the following 3 to 5 months, she lost all of her movement and her progress. She could no longer stand, feed herself, walk, climb stairs or sit up on her own.
January 31, 2024 Tayler was taken back into the OR for her third surgery by a newly appointed surgeon. She went in to receive one procedure and it turned into two procedures and a total revision of her first two surgeries. Though the revisions were successful and Tayler has now regained some of her movement. Many other things went wrong. Tayler has now had 10 surgeries in total and 8 since January 31, 2024.
On Feb 7 2024 Tayler almost died in the OR while receiving a intubation/ trek. Tayler was intentionally smothered and assulted by a Anesthesiologist. She was also given sedation medication she wasn't supposed to receive. For two days Tayler was non responsive and 100% dependant on the ventilator. She woke up hysterical, traumatized and full of tears as she explained the events that happened to her in the OR. After a 2 week investigation, the hospital apologized for the situation and the behavior of the doctor. They actually apologize for everything she has experienced, including the botched surgery. When the dangerous doctor ended up in my daughter's room again. I then escalated the complaint, to the local CEO and higher ups. I was ignored for 2 months by every person I contacted. I then sent a descriptive email to the CEO of all the hospitals nation wide. Two days later I was called into a “off the records meeting”. I was told that I misunderstood the face to face apology Tayler and I received. They denied (certain parts) of horrible experience. Yet admitted to other important details. Even removed the head doctor that stopped the assault in the OR room. Saying she was never there. Unbelievable…
Tayler is hospitalized 66.2 miles away from home. It cost $50 dollars a day in gas for me to be there with her. It’s been 3 months and she still has at least 6 weeks before she can come home. I am there EVERYDAY.
I am a Cosmetologist and have owned a small Salon for 14 years. Unfortunately I have had to shut my business completely down several times over the last year to support Tayler. I am her full time nurse when she is home. So I am only able to open my Salon 2 days a week. It is definitely a struggle.
We currently live on the third floor which is now not suitable for Tayler. When she came home in August, she could climb all 36 steps. Now she cannot climb one. I’m in the process of trying to relocate and find a home suitable for Tayler before she is released. One that is wheelchair friendly and has space for her to move around and progress.
This money will be used for a medical investigator, litigation, rehabilitation, gas, food and a suitable home for Taylers needs.
If you can't donate, I understand but please share. Hospitals need to be held responsible for their actions. They took a oath to provide quality and safe care to our loved ones and to the community. Accountability is a lacking in health care.
It’s really hard for me to ask people for help. I’m uncomfortable but I would do anything for my children. We thank you all in advance.
