<div>My older brother, Erick George, was taken from us in a senseless act of violence. A man shot him multiple times after accidentally brushing shoulders. Erick was only 25 years old.

<div>To the world, Erick may be another name in a news story. To me, he was my best friend, my role model, and the person I looked up to every day. He was the kind of brother who always made sure I was okay, who made me laugh when I was having a bad day, and who believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself.

<div>Now our family is facing a pain that feels impossible to put into words.

<div>My mom has already experienced more loss than anyone should have to endure. While she was pregnant with Erick, she lost his dad in a tragic accident while he was trying to save a coworker. Now she is grieving the loss of her son, and I am grieving the loss of my big brother.

<div>The house feels different. The silence feels heavier. Every day we wake up hoping this is just a nightmare, but it isn’t.
