You may know her from her emotional response as she watched her street collapse in the widely circulated YouTube video of the Baltimore landslide. Those of us in the neighborhood know Erica McCullough as the always-smiling, always-giving "block mom" who has taken care of family and friends in her 26th Street home for 13 years.

A single mom of two, teacher and small business owner who sold her wedding ring and took out a second mortgage to start her business mentoring Baltimore youth, Erica has been displaced from her home and office, adding to her bills and preventing her from working. Not one to ask for help herself, those of us in the neighborhood are reaching out to you on her behalf.

Being self-employed means there is little safety net in a time of crisis. Please consider extending your support to a woman who has always taken care of others. Every little bit helps. Please share this with others.

She began Living Legacy Development in 2007 to provide jobs, tutoring and college application assistance to local students, many of whom come from disadvantaged circumstances, after the shooting death of one of her former Mt. Royal Elementary pupils. Operating on a shoestring budget, her company has helped dozens of local teens get on the path to college. The landslide has put a halt to the work she's been doing.

"For me, the whole thing has been extremely emotional," she said. "I've been through a lot on that block, so when you hear that scream or you hear whatever's on that 911 tape, it's me realizing that my whole entire life is possibly going under." (http://bsun.md/1l8FQOv)
