Help Eric’s family fight ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease

Donation protected
Eric was diagnosed with A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's Disease) September of last year following an injury at work that left him unable to return to work. This disease began with Eric being unable to walk without assistance, which has progressed to him being unable to walk or stand. At this time, Eric utilizes a scooter and will eventually be completely confined to a wheelchair.  A.L.S. is a progressive Neuromuscular disease that affects the brain and spinal column destroying the nerves and eventually spreading to the entire body leaving the brain intact as the body fails.  There is no cure, there is no treatment and it is always fatal.

Before this injury and then diagnosis, Eric was an extremely active person with a career as a correctional officer for 18 years and former firefighter for 13 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working out, and as much time as he could get with his family.  Eric loved the outdoors, landscaping, gardening and fun nights around a camp fire.

Eric's family is comprised of his wonderful fiancée Kathy, 2 daughters (Jessica 17 and Katie 14) on his side and a daughter and a son (Jessica 21 and Ryan 18) on Kathy's side. Eric and Kathy had only been together for a little over a year before he was injured and then diagnosed with this crippling disease 9 months later.

This campaign is being organized to help Eric, Kathy and his family be able to afford of all the medical equipment he needs now and in the future. To assist with making their home handicap accessible and for all of the home health care Eric will need once he is no longer able to care for himself.  A.L.S can cost 100,000 a year once 24 hour care is needed before hospice. These costs are not covered by health insurance or Medicare nor are there any state/government programs that cover the cost of 24 hour care.

Thank you for your help and support towards this beautiful family that will need as much support as they can get as this disease progresses.
