My dear friend Emma's horse is in a critical condition. Emma is a community member of Estes Park who has helped many families, animals, and animal care for the Estes Park Valley community. She needs our help for her family horse!

Daniel's Story: At the end of October, he had trauma to his penis causing extreme swelling and paralysis. His vet team came every other day for two weeks to check his progress and see if he had any returning function. After two weeks, he still couldn’t retract his penis into his sheath, and he had 65% of his penis amputated on November 12.

He was recovering well; however, on January 12th, he started dripping urine and not having full pees. The vet came out (Jan 14) to discover the opening of his urethra had completely closed, and he had a high fever. He went to CSU that same day to have the hole reopened and a catheter placed to empty his bladder.

The first catheter came out on Jan 18th, so he had to go back to CSU and have it placed again.

The second catheter stayed in until Jan 30 when it needed to be removed after becoming clogged.

On the 5th, he started dripping again. On the 7th, the vet came back out to discover the hole had closed again in record time, and he had a fluid pocket making placing another catheter very tricky. His team decided he needed to have surgery ASAP before the hole could close again.

He’s going in to CSU tomorrow, Jan 10 at 10:30, to have Perineal Urethrostomy (PU). This surgery should fix all his issues and has a high success rate even for older horses.

The surgery was quoted at $18,000/$20,000, and I need to pay an 80% deposit of the low end, so $12,000, before the surgery starts.

I just paid $650 off his almost $3,000 vet bill on Thursday before I knew this surgery would be happening. I’ve paid around $2,100 so far since this started in October. His board is almost $380 monthly, and feed is $240 monthly.

I’m doing everything I can and working as much as I can right now, but anything helps. Thank you so much.
