<div>On Memorial Day, May 26, 2025, what should have been a joyful day on the water turned into a nightmare when a boat explosion near Fort Lauderdale left all of us on board fighting for our lives.

<div>As someone who was there that day, I am grateful to have walked away without severe injuries — but my heart is heavy for my cousins, Emily and Shantel, who are now facing a long and painful road to recovery.

<div>Emily suffered second-and third-degree burns and is preparing for her first surgery on Friday, May 30. Her recovery will be long and challenging, requiring multiple procedures, rehabilitation, and long term care. 

</div>

<div>Shantel sustained second-degree burns and, while her injuries are less severe, she faces a difficult road ahead as well. Shantel is also a single mom to her 2-year-old little boy, adding even more weight to her recovery journey as she balances healing with caring for her little one.
