Help Emily Get Puberty Blockers: TARGET REACHED!

Donation protected
A plea from a mum of a 13 year old trans girl, who has had puberty blocking mediation snatched from her grasp, following the court ruling against the Tavistock and Portman gender identity clinic on 1st December 2020.

Hi, I’m Emma, mum to Emily, my wonderful 13 year old daughter, who just happens to be transgender. Emily has been a patient at the Tavistock and Portman (GIDS) clinic for the last three years, and has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria. She was just weeks away from getting puberty blocking medication prescribed by the NHS clinic, when the crushing blow of the legal ruling from the Bell Vs Tavistock legal case came crashing down on the 1st of December , effectively stopping the Tavistock clinic from prescribing blockers to under 16’s.

While the Tavistock considers appealing the ruling - which there is no guarantee they will win - my daughter is starting puberty. Her body is changing, a body she already struggles to live in, so her now not getting to access blockers is a terrible blow. Without access to blockers I don’t think she will make it through the next few years.

THE ONLY OPTION OPEN TO ME NOW IS TO RAISE THE MONEY SO THAT EMILY CAN GET THE ESSENTIAL PUBERTY BLOCKING TREATMENT SHE URGENTLY NEEDS FROM A PRIVATE TRANS HEALTHCARE PROVIDER.

I work part-time as a home care assistant and following the judgement had to reduce my working hours to support Emily. She has struggled with mental health difficulties while waiting for treatment, but crashed after hearing the news about the Tavistock case, as the thought of developing into a male is absolutely destroyed her. I am incredibly concerned about her declining mental health if she doesn’t get treatment, and as her mother will do whatever it takes to help her.

It is for this reason that I have started this crowdfunder – I want to make sure that I can afford to pay for Emily’s transition healthcare until she’s 18, as I don’t want to make her promises I can’t keep. The money raised by the crowdfunder will cover the cost of all medication, blood tests and setup and administration costs with GenderGP, the only private healthcare provider in the UK supporting trans kids.

⚠️PLEASE HELP - TIME IS RUNNING OUT AS EMILY IS REACHING PUBERTY!

A little bit about Emily, for those of you who don’t know…

Emily has known who she is since the age of three. After years of trying to tell me she was a girl, and getting more and more depressed, anxious and withdrawn, I finally started listening. By the age of eight Emily had socially transitioned (changed her name and pronouns) and was known as the vibrant, eloquent and fiercely proud trans girl that she is today.

Not content with socially transitioning, Emily has set her mind to making the world a better place for other trans kids who follow in her footsteps. Proud of who she is, Emily is visible as a young trans girl, and uses her voice to speak out about LGBTQ+ education and trans rights. When she started her new high school last year and found out they didn’t have an LGBT club, she decided to start one. When she realised that other schools also didn’t have LGBT clubs, she decided to write to all MP’s in the UK to get their support to champion them in every secondary school in the country. When Covid hit, rather than put her ambitions on hold, she put her mind to setting up a school “lending library” for LGBTQ+ books – asking dozens of authors and publishers for book donations.

Emily’s activism didn’t go unnoticed, and in 2019 she was nominated for a ‘Liverpool Pride’ award (and yes, as her mum, I was super proud!).

Emily has so much more to do, and so much more to give, as she grows into a fierce young woman – but she needs your help to do that.

PLEASE DONATE SO THAT EMILY CAN URGENTLY GET THE PUBERTY BLOCKING MEDICATION SHE DESPERATELY NEEDS!

At the age of 13, my beautiful daughter Emily is desperate to stop her body from growing into that of a man. She is fraught with anxiety about her voice breaking, hair starting to grow on her face and body, her adams apple protruding and her body betraying her. Puberty blocking medication can help stop this from happening, but she needs to get it soon!

Any donation, however small, will go towards Emily’s healthcare, to ensure that she can continue receiving medical support until she can access NHS treatment at age 18. I need to raise the money to urgently get private puberty blocking medication for her until she is an adult. This is treatment that has been prescribed to trans kids for the last 30 years, but only due to a rise in anti-transgender lobbying in the UK, has it been removed as a timely, accessible option within the NHS.

Please donate whatever you can, so that Emily can continue growing into the bright, proud, young woman and fierce trans-activist she strives to be.

***UPDATE AT 12: MIDDAY ON 16/12/20 - We have now reached the target of £13,000 - THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR GENEROSITY ❤️ - I have had to update the beneficiary of the GoFundMe campaign to a friend's account, as I have just found out that GoFundMe requires either a passport or driving license to withdraw funds, which I don't have. My trusted friend is going to forward all money to me for Emily's healthcare once they receive it. I wanted to post this update to be totally transparent.***
