Help Ella Grace C &The Simmons' With Surgery Costs

Donation protected

Fundraising to help Ella Grace and her parents (David and Sabrina Simmons) with spinal surgery and post-op care expenses.

By just taking a look at Ella Grace, she seems like your average, healthy, normal, 16-year-old girl. And for the most part, she is, but a few weeks ago at her yearly checkup, she was diagnosed with significant scoliosis ranging from her neck to her pelvis. At age 12, she was diagnosed with mild scoliosis they took X-rays and said they would monitor it, but it was nothing concerning at that moment. Today, it is more than concerning and despite attending all of her regular checkups, her condition is too severe for braces or physical therapy alone. Already, she has had to stop doing some of her favorite things to prevent injury to her spine and spinal cord. This is just the beginning of changes that will occur in her life. During the next year, Ella Grace will undergo an extensive surgery to fuse her thoracic spine in addition to the placement of rods, screws, and wires in her spine to correct the curves. Prior to the surgery, she will need to go through physical therapy with a C2 certified therapist to strengthen her back and prepare it for surgery, pulmonary function tests, and three MRIs. After the operation, she is going to need at-home care to help change surgical dressings, keep her showered, make her food, etc. which costs nearly 1,000 dollars a week. In between surgeries, she will have to have a specialized therapist work with her for a minimum of 6 months to restrengthen and retrain her spine. As you can imagine, even with health insurance, the costs of a major back surgery, 24/7 care, physical therapy, and specialized equipment are more than my parents, David and Sabrina Simmons, can take on. Anyone that knows them knows how hardworking the two of them are and that they put so much time into both their jobs and their kids. They are not the kind of people to ask for help. In fact, when I mentioned the GoFundMe to them their response was "but after this year, so many other people need help too". After watching the toll the stress of all of this is already taking on them, I decided that they were one of those people that needed help. I have picked up extra shifts to try and help out, but as a full-time college student, I can only do so much. If you feel moved to donate to help Ella Grace Cody and the Simmons family with surgery and care costs, any amount would be SO APPRECIATED.  It would relieve financial stress from my family and allow us to be able to spend more time with Ella Grace throughout her recovery and healing.
