Help Elizabeth, COP night custodian

Donation protected

Hi everyone,
Some of you will remember that Mickey sent out an email about our night custodian Elizabeth's financial situation a few weeks ago, specifically asking for help to  get a car. While talking with Elizabeth about  a car, I learned that the situation was really much worse.   I'm writing to ask you to help.
Elizabeth has worked as a part-time night custodian for the College of Pharmacy for many years, and is well known for her kindness and service.  A few months ago, she was laid off from her full-time day job with the school district, and is now in an extremely difficult financial position.  In addition to losing her car, I learned she was also losing her apartment, and has no family locally who can help her.   Most shelters are only open at night, which doesn't work for someone who works nights, and other services only serve families with children. This is someone who has served our college for years, who has been working two jobs, and who is on the verge of becoming homeless. We can't let that happen!
Elizabeth was evicted from her apartment Monday morning, but I have worked with friends and a local church group to have her outstanding balance paid, get her moved out, and provide funding for temporary housing at local hotel through next Monday.  After that, I'm not sure where she will go. Let's show Elizabeth that her College of Pharmacy family will provide a safety net to get her back on her feet!
What you can do:
1) Contribute here for immediate help with temporary housing costs,  security deposit for a new apartment, and help getting a new car.
2) Let me know if you or someone you know have a need for a housekeeper, and I will put you in touch with Elizabeth. She wants to work!
3) Please understand that Elizabeth is very shy about asking for help and is kind of embarrassed by her situation.  She may not want to talk about the details, but she is extremely grateful.
4) Contribute to local organizations that help folks like  Elizabeth who fall on difficult times and slip through the cracks of available services.  The Athens First United Methodist Church has given a significant amount of time and money to help her and many others.
