Eliezer Cabrera Aragundi is my 3-year-old nephew who lives in Ecuador. In November, our world was turned upside down when Eliezer was diagnosed with a chronic and life-threatening illness: kidney failure. Despite his young age, Eliezer has already endured more than most adults. His doctors have explained that his body is resistant to most medications, including immunosuppressants, and if he also becomes resistant to Rituximab, there will be no remaining treatment options. At that point, doctors would have to allow further damage to his kidneys just so he can qualify for the kidney transplant waiting list. This shows how critical and urgent his condition truly is.

 Eliezer is currently on lifesaving medication, and each treatment is a significant, ongoing expense. These medications are absolutely necessary to keep him stable while he waits and prepares for a transplant. Unfortunately, Ecuador lacks the medical resources and financial support needed for a child in Eliezer’s condition. A kidney transplant is his only chance to survive, but it comes with overwhelming costs, including medications, hospitalization, surgery, post-operative care, and long-term treatment. Our family is doing everything possible, but the financial burden is far beyond what we can manage on our own.
