<div>Am 11. Juli feierte er seinen 40. Geburtstag auf einem Boot in Berlin. Es sollte ein unbeschwerter, schöner Tag werden. Ausgelassen und glücklich, so wie man feiert, wenn man mitten im Leben steht.

<div>An einer angeblich tiefen und sicheren Badestelle, springt er vom Boot aus ins Wasser und schlägt mit dem Kopf auf dem Boden auf.

<div>Dieser eine Moment verändert sein Leben:

<div>Mit 40 Jahren muss Eko plötzlich eine völlig neue Realität annehmen.

<div>Als selbstständiger Filmemacher und Fotograf hatte er sich ein Leben aufgebaut. Gemeinsam mit seiner Lebensgefährtin und seiner Hündin Coco wollte er gerade in einen neuen Lebensabschnitt starten.

<div>Jetzt liegt ein langer, schwerer Weg vor ihm:

<div>Reha, barrierefreie Umbauten, Hilfsmittel für ein ganz neues Leben nach dem Unfall. Vieles davon ist teuer, und nicht alles übernimmt die Krankenkasse. Seine Familie kann diese finanzielle Last nicht allein tragen.

<div>One jump into the water, and the life of our friend Ersin, whom we all call "Eko," changed forever.
</div>

<div>On July 11th, he celebrated his 40th birthday on a boat in Berlin. It was supposed to be a carefree, beautiful day. Joyful and happy, the way you celebrate when you're right in the middle of life.
</div>

</div>
<div>At a spot that was supposedly deep and safe, he jumps off the boat into the water and hits his head on the ground.
</div>

</div>
<div>In that moment, his life changes forever:

<div><strong>After emergency surgery, it's confirmed: Eko is paralyzed from the chest down. Forever.</strong>
</div>

<div>At 40, Eko suddenly has to accept a completely new reality.
</div>
<div>As a self-employed filmmaker and photographer, he had built a life for himself. Together with his partner and their dog Coco, he was just about to start a new chapter.
</div>

</div>
<div>Now a long, hard road lies ahead of him:

<div>Rehab, accessible renovations, aids for a completely new life after the accident. Much of it is expensive, and not all of it is covered by health insurance. His family cannot carry this financial burden alone.
