Help Edward (Ned) to be cared for at home

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Anne and I want to tell you a story about my brother-in-law Eamon (Ned) Flynn, Ballyplymouth, Cordal Castleisland, Co. Kerry.

Eamon was involved in a very serious road traffic accident on the 2nd of January 2021. Eamon was cut out of the vehicle and rushed to CUH by Air Ambulance as his Aorta was severed and he was bleeding.  At that point it was touch and go. At CUH they performed an emergency operation on his Aorta the family were informed that he had a 50 /50 chance of survival.

Eamon survived the operation, was in a coma and on a ventilator in ICU.  His Thorax was driven back into his lungs and both lungs had collapsed.  Air, blood and debris got into his lungs.  A second operation had to be performed on his abdomen to clean out the debris and blood.  As they could not locate the cause of the bleeding or stop it, his abdomen was left open for some time.

Eamon’s condition deteriorated over the following weeks, he contracted Covid-19, Sepsis, MRSA and his kidneys failed.  He was put on dialysis, his temperature continued to rise and sometimes was at a critical point.

Eamon’s heart stopped 9 times and he was brought back each time, his family were told to prepare for the worst and were allowed in to see him.  Eamon sustained a broken Pelvis, his ball and socket joint was severed and he had a broken leg. He received a bang to his head, as consequence he suffers from panic attacks and from short term memory loss.  All his teeth were driven out of his mouth and one of the teeth is now lodged in his lung.  This will be removed when he is able to undergo surgery again but this is not expected for some time as he is too weak physically.

Eamon also requires an operation to fix the broken bones in his pelvis but with his heart and lungs in such a weak state, doctors refuse to perform one in the foreseeable future.

Eamon was in ICU for three months and in a coma and on a ventilator.  Thankfully, he is now out of the coma and awake but in quite a lot of pain. He is still in hospital and will be for an indefinite number of months.  He requires intensive physio because of muscle wastage from being so long on his back. Eamon’s mobility will be very limited and he will be in a wheelchair.

Eamon’s wish is to be at home in his own surroundings, unfortunately, the layout of his home is not wheelchair friendly and structural adjustments will need to be made to the value of €100,000.  If this is not possible Eamon will  have to be placed in a residential home which nobody wants.

Your help and support for Eamon at this time would be greatly appreciated by him and his family.

Any donation big or small would be welcome.

Thank you

Anne
