Seeking Support for Critical Dental and Employment Challenges
My name is Eda, and I am reaching out to share my ongoing struggles with employment and dental health, hoping to find support from the community. Despite my efforts, I have faced significant barriers that have hindered my ability to secure stable employment and maintain my health.
Background and Personal Challenges
I grew up in Granite City, a less affluent area of St. Louis, where environmental issues such as heavy metal contamination affected my health. I suffered from heavy metal poisoning, which, combined with a genetic predisposition for weak teeth and periods of homelessness, has severely impacted my dental health. As a result, I now have only seven remaining teeth, which complicates my ability to eat properly and affects my confidence in job interviews.
Dental Care Difficulties
I have been receiving dental care from Howard Brown, a local organization dedicated to LGBTQ+ health and charity work. Unfortunately, due to their limited resources and backlog, my treatment has been delayed significantly. It took over a year to remove my damaged teeth and provide me with dentures, which are ill-fitting, cause gum irritation, and look unnatural. Despite multiple attempts to get new dentures, appointments have been canceled repeatedly, often with only days' notice, leaving me without proper dental support for over six months.
##Impact on Employment and Daily Life
The state of my dental health directly affects my ability to find employment. Discrimination based on my teeth has been a barrier, and I am unable to secure a job despite over 100 applications. I am actively seeking alternative dental options, including pro bono services, but the cost of new dentures—several thousand dollars—is beyond my current financial means.
How You Can Help
I am reaching out to ask for assistance in any way possible. If you know of open job opportunities in Chicago, or if you can contact me with dentists who offer pro bono work, your support would be invaluable. Additionally, donations to help cover the cost of new dentures would make a significant difference in my life, enabling me to improve my health, regain confidence, and increase my chances of employment.
Any help, whether through employment leads, dental referrals, or financial support, would be deeply appreciated. Your kindness can help me overcome these challenges and work towards a healthier, more stable future.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and consider supporting me during this difficult time.
