Hello my name is Alex Nicholas. I am fundraising for my Sister in-law Megan Schlaiss, her husband-to-be Nathan Nicholas (my big brother), their beautiful young family Andrew 14, Jordan 11, Eloise 7 and the newest member of their clan, who they had  planned to name together after seeing him.   It was only two days ago on September 15th 2021, that Nathan and Megan with smiles on their faces and overwhelming love in their hearts set off for the hospital to bring "Baby Nicholas" into their world.

Daytime turned to evening, evening to overnight and it wasn't until 1am of the following morning that my nephew Baby Nicholas was born.   Tragically, he came into this world unresponsive as he had gone without oxygen for an undetermined amount of time and was immediately placed in the NICU.  Though he has a rough road ahead of him, we pray that he is as much of a fighter as his mother and father and pulls through.  Megan had experienced a great deal of bleeding due to complications during the delivery and was rushed to the OR immediately after giving birth.  It was from there, that things went from bad to unimaginably worse. I woke up that morning to find my brother at my front door with tragic news that Megan had not made it through the night and had passed away. He gut wrenchingly described her courage and how hard she fought, but in the end it was just more than her body just could take.

This is all just so surreal right now & none of us can believe that she is actually gone. There wasn't a mean bone in her body and we were all blessed to have had her in our lives.  She was an incredible mother and leaves behind her 2 boys, Andrew and Jordan who for many years she raised as a single mom with help from her wonderful mother Deborah and her 2 amazing brothers Matthew &  Danny. When my brother Nate came into Megan's world, it was magic from the moment they met and their worlds quickly came together as a loving family.  With a new baby on the way and a wedding engagement in the works, their future couldn't have been brighter.

It's amazing what one day can do and how it can turn a family's entire world upside down.  There really are no words to describe this situation or the pain that we are all going through.  There isn't much I can do aside from asking for your prayers for Baby Nicholas and any support you may be able to provide the family.  Little is certain at this point, aside from the fact that there will be a heavy burden that Nathan and his children will have to manage moving forward.  With that in mind, I  humbly ask for anyone that has the mean by which to do so, to consider providing assistance to help the family through these most difficult times and whatever may lay ahead. Be it by a donation or simply sharing this story with others, any assistance provided would be tremendously appreciated.

With more love and gratitude  that I can express, I thank you for your consideration & will provide updates on Baby Nicholas as they become available.
