<div>As we explain in Episode 808 of our podcast, DG has a torn retina. Like all medical emergencies in the USA, this one is expensive.

<div>It was indeed a scary medical situation. My husband DG suffered a torn retina. This alarming condition prompted us to seek immediate medical attention at the emergency room on May 29th.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>After a series of tests, including a CAT scan, chest x-ray, and multiple other examinations, the ER team ruled out the presence of blood clots elsewhere in DG's body. However, they did not have an ophthalmologist on staff to address his eye problem.
</div>

</div>
<div>The following day, we visited the eye clinic, where DG underwent outpatient surgery to repair a torn retina. True to DG's love for science fiction, he was excited rather than fearful when being subjected to a "freeze ray" procedure – but for his WIFE it was a nerve-wracking experience!
</div>

</div>
<div>While DG is now on the road to recovery, our family is facing a significant financial burden due to our high-deductible health insurance plan. With a high deductible to meet (plus gofundme fees), we find ourselves in a challenging situation.
</div>

<div>We are incredibly grateful for the Affordable Care Act (thank you, President Obama, and all who made this legislation possible) for providing us with essential healthcare coverage. However, the associated out-of-pocket costs are overwhelming for our family.
</div>
