My Boxer dog Duke is more than just a pet—he’s my best friend and my special needs son’s emotional support animal. He is a super sweet soul, loves everyone and everything, and brings happiness wherever he goes. Whether it’s walks or car rides, Duke is always up for an adventure and has a way of making everyone smile.
Recently, Duke developed a tumor on his right side that started small but grew rapidly. When it reached the size of a baseball, he had surgery, but the vet couldn’t remove all of it without risking his lung area. Since then, the tumor has more than doubled in size to a small watermelon, and it’s now blood-filled and bleeding internally. Every week, I take Duke to the vet to have it drained, but it fills back up quickly. The vet suspects it may be a muscle blood-filled tumor called a hemangiosarcoma, but hasn’t been able to confirm this yet. Duke has been referred to Washington State University veterinary oncology for an exam and a cat scan on June 11th to find out more and hopefully get him the treatment he needs.
The costs are overwhelming. I’ve put my car up for sale to try to pay for Duke’s care, but it hasn’t sold yet and I’m so worried. My son and I pray every night for Duke’s recovery. I’m asking for help from anyone who can support Duke. Your kindness could make all the difference for Duke and our family.
