Hi, my name is Ricky and I’m fundraising for my close friend and employee Dru, whose beloved dog Blue — affectionately known as Blueberry — is fighting for his life.
Blue isn’t just a pet. He’s a Severe Allergy Service Dog, a part-time store greeter, a source of emotional support for our team and customers, and Dru’s constant companion — his shadow, his sun, his security, and his partner. He’s brought joy and comfort to so many, and now he needs our help.
Just days ago, Blue suddenly began vomiting and showing signs of severe illness. After two vet visits and over $3,000 already spent, Blue was diagnosed with a life-threatening case of leptospirosis — a highly contagious bacterial infection that attacks the kidneys, liver, and pancreas. His organ levels are dangerously high, and the vet warned that without urgent intervention, Blue could go into kidney failure.
To make matters worse, leptospirosis is zoonotic — meaning it can spread to humans. Because of this, Blue must be immediately quarantined and treated in a special hospital environment, which significantly increases his medical costs. The ER hospital in NE Washington, D.C. (VEG) has estimated $8,000–$10,000 for 4–7 days of intensive hospitalization, care, and quarantine.
The hospital will not admit him without a major deposit upfront. Dru has already borrowed $3,000 from friends just to get Blue diagnosed, but he’s now completely tapped out.
Despite giving everything he has emotionally and financially, Blue is still being turned away because of cost.
We’re begging for help — not just to save Blue’s life, but to protect others and stop the spread of this dangerous illness. Blue is a fighter. He still has life left in him.
With treatment, leptospirosis can be beaten — but time is running out fast.
