Help Doug MacKenzie recover his eyesight

Donation protected
Very early Wednesday morning, 4/28, I woke up to sudden and complete vision loss in my left eye. My right eye is blurry but I can see. I was immediately admitted to University of Washington Harborview Medical Center, where I saw a team of Neurologists, Opthamologists, Neuro-Opthamologists, Rheumatologists...likely the best team in the state.  After 3 days full of tests in the hospital (MRI, CT scan, 2 ultrasounds, an arterial biopsy and other eye tests and imaging) the likely diagnosis is Temporal Arteritis, inflammation to the blood supply for my optic nerve. The medicine prescribed to me for this condition is a strong, prolonged course of steroids. I’m grateful for the steroids because they have already halted my vision loss to my right eye, and saved me from other potential problems. I will be taking them. They suggest a 50% chance of vision improvement. However, the best prospects of recovering full vision lie within integrated complementary approaches to whole body healing, such as craniosacral and somatic movement therapy, both of which I have been practicing for 30 years.

While nobody is expecting an immediate recovery I believe that, with the guidance of the brilliant somatic experts I know, I can find pathways for substantial improvement over time. Because the most beneficial time for tissue healing is now, I am adjusting my plans and expectations for the near future in order to optimize my ability to heal. While I was looking forward to working again after my vaccination, I am now limited because I cannot travel to work. And the most promising complementary therapies I have found are expensive and not covered by insurance.

I'd like you to know that though I'm somewhat scared, I'm otherwise happy and well. I'm profoundly moved by those who have reached out to me with loving support of all kinds. Thank you for reading this. Though it feels unruly to ask for help, I want to see you in a bright future. If you care to spare some change to support me in the process of recovering my vision, or can share this with some who might, I’d be very grateful. Your thoughts and prayers are still the best medicine. Most of all, thank you for being here with me in this mysterious and beautiful life.
