My name is Kyla Purtell, and I am raising funds for Dorothy "Dot" Wong and Jeff Herring, who lost their Altadena home of over 20 years in the Eaton fire. I have been their friend for a decade and collaborator, working closely with them on their SoCalCross event series and more here in the Los Angeles area. 
 
It is hard to put into words their dedication, kindness, generosity, and what they have given to so many people. Dot and Jeff, as a team, have been a backbone of their community for over 20 years. They are both ardent protectors of the natural environment, who care deeply about their home and their local community—the Hahamonga watershed, and across the San Gabriel foothills. 
 
Together, they have been instrumental in growing and developing cyclocross and promoting the joys of cycling to all in Southern California, through the SoCalCross series, which has had over 200+ events to date, and in collaboration with events to support seniors, youth, para-athletes, and so much more. 
 
Jeff is a lifelong resident of the area. An artist and creative, a maker and builder, he is quick to help his neighbors and community. Dorothy has been involved for many years in both neighborhood government, serving as a Town Councilwoman in Altadena, and with many other local causes—giving freely so much of her time and energy to change her community for the better. In the greater Los Angeles cycling community, she is a bicycle and pedestrian educator and leader. It would be impossible to count how many people have been touched by Dot and Jeff's enthusiasm, knowledge, and altruism. 
 
They are currently evacuated with their pets and are safe, though their home has been totally lost in the fires. As well, they've lost everything enables their contributions to their community. Your contributions will help them this challenging time. These funds will assist with needs that may not be fully covered by other sources of aid.
