Help Rosangel Save Abandoned Animals in Venezuela

My best friend, Rosangel (or “Dossy,” as I lovingly call her), has been rescuing abandoned animals for over a decade. We’ve known each other since we were 5 years old, and I can honestly say she has one of the most compassionate hearts I’ve ever known.

For the past 10–12 years, despite living in Venezuela under very difficult economic conditions, Rosangel has dedicated her life to caring for dogs and cats who had nowhere else to go. No matter how sick, malnourished, or neglected, she chooses to give them a chance at life.

Today, she cares for **18 animals full-time**—those who never found a forever home. She simply cannot bring herself to return them to the streets. On top of that, she also helps families in extreme poverty who cannot afford medical care for their pets.

The Current Emergency

Recently, Rosangel found **two abandoned dogs**, Lucho and Renzo, near a clandestine dumpster. Both were malnourished and suffering from **canine papillomavirus**.

**Lucho** has lesions on his snout.

**Renzo** has dozens of lesions on his snout, gums, and tongue, making it painful for him to eat.

For weeks, Rosangel and her partner David brought them food every day until she couldn’t bear their suffering any longer and brought them to the vet.

Just the medical costs for their treatments, exams, and care alone have already reached **over \$500 USD**—an enormous amount in Venezuela, where the minimum wage is only a few dollars a month. For someone already living in poverty while caring for 18 animals and her elderly mother, this is simply impossible to sustain without help.

And There’s More...

On the very same day she rescued Lucho and Renzo, Rosangel also found a tiny abandoned black kitten. She couldn’t keep it in her already crowded rented home, so she asked an elderly woman in her neighborhood—a poor, sick, and lonely lady who owns a cat herself—if she could shelter the kitten temporarily. The woman kindly agreed, and Rosangel now provides daily food for the kitten to support them both.

Why We Need Your Help

Rosangel cannot continue this work alone. She is giving everything she has—her time, energy, and meager income—to protect these animals and help people in her community. But this emergency with Lucho, Renzo, and the kitten has pushed her beyond what she can afford.
